Chandigarh Grenade Attack Case Solved In a major breakthrough, the Counter Intelligence wing of Punjab Police, in a joint operation with Chandigarh Police, solves the Chandigarh grenade attack case. Police teams are conducting operations to nab the absconding accused. This operation has effectively foiled a major terror conspiracy aimed at disrupting peace and harmony in the region. Charge laid in extortion investigation
For the second time this week, we have made an arrest connected to our ongoing South Asian extortion series investigation.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., on Saturday, March 7, 2026, patrol officers observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation in the 7000 block of Falconridge Blvd N.E. and initiated a traffic stop. They immediately recognized it as matching the description of a suspect vehicle believed to be involved in the Wednesday, March 4, 2026 extortion-related shooting on Skyview Parkway N.E. Officers coordinated with investigators on scene, carefully documenting observations and securing evidence linked to the earlier shooting. The vehicle was seized, and key information was preserved to support the ongoing investigation.
Over the following weeks, investigators analyzed the evidence gathered during the traffic stop, along with information from previous incidents, to identify links between suspects, vehicles, and extortion-related shootings. Through sustained investigative work, officers pieced together these connections that ultimately led to today’s arrest.
This outcome reflects both the vigilance of patrol officers and the persistence of investigators working behind the scenes to disrupt violent extortion activity and hold those responsible accountable.
“This is a significant win for our investigators and for the community,” says Supt. Jeff Bell. “Another arrest this week underscores our message that this does not belong in our city, and those responsible should understand that we will pursue them relentlessly, using all legal avenues to ensure public safety, stop the threat, and hold offenders accountable.”
Jaskaran SINGH, 21, of Calgary, has been charged with discharging a firearm with intent.
Since January 2025, there have been 41 extortion attempts in Calgary. Eighteen of the incidents involved shootings at homes, businesses, or vehicles. These crimes are happening across Canada, and while they have involved threats and shootings, we have no reported injuries in Calgary to date.
