For a long time, no new semiautomatic handguns could be sold in California thanks to our so-called Unsafe Handgun Act, which required various "safety features" be included in any handgun sold here (unless they existed prior to those requirements existing and were grandfathered in). While the magazine disconnect and chamber load indicator requirements are annoying and unwanted, they are at least technologically feasible. But the microstamping requirement was not. Because that became required in 2013 thanks to Kamala Harris, our handgun market was essentially frozen in time for a decade. The original Shield was just about the newest semiautomatic handgun you could buy in California, unless you paid a fortune for off-roster guns secondhand (either from a cop, or from someone who moved here from out of state). Boland v. Bonta ended that in 2023. Microstamping was enjoined, and later repealed by the legislature (with plans to possibly bring it back in the future). Now, when a new semiautomatic is added to the roster, it has an asterisk noting it is there due to the Boland injunction. While multiple people did good work on the matter, the Boland case was primarily the brainchild of my former colleague Alex Frank. It was his baby until he left the firm recently. So if you have bought a modern handgun in California in the last couple of years, you have Alex to thank. Well, now he has made a bit of a career shift and opened up a training school called Asset Training Group: "At Asset Training Group, we firmly believe that unless you take concealed carry very seriously, you are more likely to be a liability with your gun than an asset. You're adding words to mischaracterize my statement. I never said it's legally justified to shoot law-abiding concealed carriers. My comment addressed agitators approaching law enforcement with a gun and refusing to disarm. I come from a community where multiple LEOs have been killed by firearms in the line of duty. They put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe. The left is playing a very dangerous game by encouraging armed confrontations with police. My advice stands: If you value your life, do not aggressively approach law enforcement while armed. If they reasonably perceive a threat and you fail to immediately disarm, they are legally permitted to use deadly force.

Ignore the Antifa “pro-2A” accounts working overtime to justify violence against law enforcement. No one is buying it, and we will restore law and order on American streets.
