A group of dealers came to you Mr. President @KagutaMuseveni and sold you the idea of digital number plates, however there is a genuine outcry over the rampant theft of these plates and police can’t track them.

@jssenkandwa @KagutaMuseveni Maybe the question should be directed at the “group of dealers.” The @MoWT_Uganda , the Prime Minister and Speaker Among know the “group”. They should summoned to face the appropriate parliamentary committee and explain this problem… But that is a fanciful hope.

#URAEnforcementAlert Entebbe🌎 A major drug bust took place at Entebbe International Airport in the wee hours of yesterday when a team of URA customs officers, working with the Special Forces Command (SFC) and the Anti-Narcotic Police Unit intercepted a large quantity of cocaine being smuggled into the country. The suspect, a man believed to be Nigerian by descent, arrived on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha at approximately 00:10 hours. During routine baggage screening, officers noticed suspicious images on the scanner. Further inspection of the scanner images showed one passenger’s bag with tins that seemed to hold something unusual. After a thorough physical check by the Aviation Police Narcotics Team, the contents were confirmed to be carefully concealed cocaine. The suspect was immediately arrested and taken into police custody. He is currently being held at the Airport Police Station. This seizure was aided by intelligence information provided to the customs officers by the Uganda Police Narcotics Team, which helped flag the suspect as a potential drug trafficker. Authorities are now working to establish more details about the origins of the narcotics and any connections to organized crime. The seized cocaine is classified as prohibited items under both international law and Uganda's national legislation, including sections 4(1) and 2(9) of the Narcotic Drugs and psychotropic substances (Control) Act of 2016; The 1988 UN Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances also outlaws such activities globally. Drug smuggling at the airport is not a new issue. In March 2023, authorities seized 9.8 kilograms of cocaine worth about Shs 4 billion, linked to another Nigerian national. Later that year, the Kampala Metropolitan Police destroyed over 56 kilograms, worth Shs. 3 billion of narcotics confiscated from travelers at the airport, between 2020 and 2023. The public is reminded that narcotics trafficking remains a serious crime with severe legal consequences, and authorities continue to intensify their efforts to prevent drug smuggling into Uganda. #Customs101

That was a typo Elias. Enumerators are paid 50,000 shillings per day for 10 days totaling to 500,000 Ugandan shillings for 10 days which is not taxable because it is an allowance. #UgandaCensus2024

UBOS @StatisticsUg offered Shs.50000 ($13) as salary to paid for 10 days to all agents who will go to the field to carryout population census . Count transport, data and time you put in to apply , do interviews etc . This is shocking Bambi Ugandans 😭 Bukedea Buganda Canary

@TimothyDams @joshuabyamazima @URAuganda By its nature, VAT is supposed to be charged every time there's value added to an item along the value chain. URA would've to know the future value to be added to this product till it reaches the final consumer, and charge this to the manufacturer. Clearly this isn't possible

@nze_jo @joshuabyamazima @URAuganda Why remit the 18% VAT yet it was already remitted by the manufacturer? This is what I don't understand, the manufacturer remits pushes it down the supply chain, distributor remits another 18 to Ura, wholesaler still remits again to URA, retailers still remit another 18%.

@joshuabyamazima @URAuganda Note that the supermarket doesn't remit all this 381/- to URA. They offset the VAT they incurred when buying and remit just a portion of this. Assuming a purchase price of 2000/- for both, the supermarket's profit after taxes comes to ~426/- vs 500/- for vendor. Not so alarming

In defense of LGBTQ rights, Archbishop Desmond Tutu had this to say; "I would not worship a God who is homophobic, I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven. No, I would say, 'Sorry, I would much rather go to the other place." If Desmond Tutu a celebrated and respected human rights activist and noble peace prize winner went to hell for defending gays, our religious leaders that threaten LGBTQ activists with hell may also end up in hell for turning a blind eye to the gross human rights violations. Moral of this tweet; We are all sinners.

@URAuganda @ninsiima_emilly @URAuganda Set your targets give them to the manufacturer or importer and track Ur vat from their instead of harassing the citizens down the chain of at all it's levied one time on a particular product. Apparently u levy VAT at every step of the supply chain which is unfair

Hello @ninsiima_emilly Please permit us to share with you and your followers afew open secrets on Value Added Tax (VAT). 1. VAT is a consumption tax, that is ultimately paid by the consumer. 2. VAT has a component of input and out put, as the various players along the VAT chain do business. So the importer that you mention in your tweet, pays VAT at importation that is his input VAT. When he sells to the wholesalers, he earns output VAT which offsets the input VAT. The wholesaler and retailer also do the same. The consumer is the one who inccurs the VAT because he cant offset against anything. EFRIS is here to help URA ensure that there is transactional visibility across the entire VAT chain. We have had instances where the final consumer pays the VAT to anyone of the people along the value chain who have instead eaten the VAT instead of remitting it to URA. EFRIS is here to stop the illegal eating of VAT. Mumazima ga yesu, EFRIS is not the economic enemy, it is the VAT eater. Emilly tuli fenna? #FfeBanno
Ninsiima Emilly@ninsiima_emilly

So government wants: 1. Importers to pay VAT 2. Wholesalers to pay VAT 3. Retailers to pay VAT 4. Consumers to pay VAT On the same good the importer bought. Kwegamba they want us to pay VAT 4 times on just one product that paid VAT already 🙄. Mwe abamanyi Effris explain more

Hello @PTL_Ug Please note that for Uganda, the tax head VAT has been here since 1997. It’s not new. It has however been abused in the past with some VAT registered businesses collecting it from consumers but not remitting it to URA. EFRIS is a system that was introduced to combat non-remittance of VAT because it guarantees visibility of transactions that attract VAT. It is this exposure that is the ire of perhaps entities that were hitherto not remitting the VAT they were collecting from consumers. EFRIS is a game changer. #FfeBanno

Uganda Revenue Authority@URAuganda·
Dear valued customers, we would like to remind you that you have already been paying VAT every time you have been dining or shopping from VAT registered businesses. We would also like to inform you that there is nothing like an “18% EFRIS VAT” as indicated in this poster. We would like to emphasize that EFRIS is simply a system that is enabling URA to effectively monitor the VAT that you have already been paying. The system is here to enable businesses and the Taxman to have the same level of visibility to guarantee the integrity of VAT declarations. Previously, some VAT registered businesses (not necessarily the one in the poster) have been collecting the VAT paid by clients but not remitting it to URA fully as expected. EFRIS is here to put an end to this under/misdeclaration. VAT is an indirect tax that is paid by consumers and collected by VAT registered businesses on behalf of government. Therefore, to introduce this purported “18% EFRIS VAT’ when clients have already been paying VAT is irregular. #FfeBanno
