Chris Finch on TJ Shannon's impact "Really good offensively. Defensively, I think his first shift was full of a lot of gameplay mistakes. I think we got to clean that up for sure. But, offensively, he's proven he can be a weapon for us."

First one he's late to react to Johnson's cut and doesn't fight over the screen and gives up an open look.
Second one he switches late and way too easily, leaving Mike scrambling to catch up.
Third one he overhelps when Mike is already the guy rotating to help, leaving TWO guys wide open for 3.
Last one he shows the help initially, making his teammates think he has the back side help covered, but then fades and leaves the lane wide open.

Conley was unfortunately not the issue. Ayo didn’t have a good night. Jaden didn’t have a good night. Rudy’s defensive impact was ugly because ball contain was poor (especially after Jaden got into foul trouble).
If they’re going to shake up the starting 5, I think a bigger body like TJ or Jayden make more sense than Bones. I lean TJ because despite his defensive issues, he can get to the rim, get out and run, draw fouls, etc…and I think the Wolves’ path to victory without Ant/Donte is going to be via exploitation of Denver’s bad defense more than it’ll be stifling their incredible offense.

@ChrisLoupos @allthingsmn Maybe. Just seems like the formula to beat Denver hasn't been to try to beat them at their own game of efficient scoring. It has been to harass them and frustrate them with aggressive, physical defense so they can't get in a rhythm, while creating transition scoring opportunities

@zipnosis20 @ChristopherHine You might be able to cherry pick a few instances of that happening, but overall he's been consistently locked in and playing well on the defensive end while shouldering a high usage load on offense.

Suspected the Wolves coaching staff was going to be on TJ Shannon pretty good about defensive game plan issues because they really need what he brings offensively. Judging by Chris Finch's tone when he was asked about cleaning up Shannon's mistakes, that likely happened.

In the December matchup Ant scored 27 on 11/16 from the field and 3/7 from 3 with Watson guarding him.

Who should he have taken minutes away from to give more to NAW last year?
When guys show that they will go out, play hard, and execute the gameplan consistently, Finch gives them minutes.
I really hate when fans who never see what goes on at practice rag on coaches for their lineup decisions. I remember Vikings fans incessantly bashing Mike Zimmer for not giving Kellen Mond a shot to start over Kirk Cousins. Similar thing happened with Dillingham this year on the Wolves.

@ChrisLoupos @allthingsmn Murray shot 0/5 with no assists and got blocked once when guarded by Clark last game. He played fantastic defense on Jalen Brown too in the game we won in Boston. I definitely think he still has lots of potential if he can find even some consistency in his jump shot.

His game plans and defensive schemes are almost always smart and effective. He managed to get an offense with a bunch of incongruent pieces humming. He consistently makes smart halftime adjustments that swing games.
But fans will cherry pick bad moments and blame him for things that were clearly the fault of the players. It is really strange how people seem so desperate to make him a scapegoat.

@ChrisLoupos @allthingsmn Fair enough. Don't think the fouls are an issue when you don't need to play him beyond the first quarter. Just put him in to harass Murray while Jaden gets into a rhythm on offense.
