@lauriewired In the short story Luminous, by Greg Egan, there's a supercomputer (luminous) exactly like this. It's made entirely from beams of light, and only exists for an instant until the computation it was instantiated to do is complete

@Stewart_2028 I'm just assuming anyone who says shit like this is a Republican op

Some are saying he's the best to ever do it

Mamdani brought along the fake Daily News front page as a gift for Trump to cajole him into providing funding for a long-stalled plan to build 12,000 apartments on top of Sunnyside Yards, per City Hall & sources. More on Mamdani's latest meet with Trump: politico.com/news/2026/02/2…

@gdechichi @ReedSealFoss @unity I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on alternatives to scripting languages. Would your approach still support modding somehow?
English

file formats: .fbx, .glb, .png, .webp. I add file formats as clients need them
scripting language: no, one of my hypothesis is that there is a better path than scripting languages while still being user friendly. I’ll share more about this in the future.
my goal is faster *and* easier to use, of course a lot to do still but I believe it’s possible
English

every time I talk about my engine with devs that used @unity their whole life I always get the same reaction:
1 - they don't believe one person can build an engine that surpasses it and
2 - even if they could, it must result in tech that is "too hard" to use
this used to bother me a lot, but today I realized something 🧵
Gabriel Dechichi@gdechichi
just finished my animation system in C and turns out it's ~14 times faster than @unity's animation system. I didn't optimize any of this btw, probably could be much faster still 🧵

@AlecStapp Growing food doesn't produce abundance, it simply shifts sustenance from some (the bourgeoisie) to others (the starving masses)

@tracewoodgrains First time seeing myself in a random culture war picture on the internet

@mspringut @psparks1960 Literally yes via zoning laws and architectural requirements.

@psparks1960 See!!! The NIMBYs forced me to put this steaming pile of shit here!!!

When I first came to Silicon Valley I was describing how I had a very specific moment where I burst into consciousness in grade 1 and this guy said I probably did have another simpler consciousness that was my main personality, - but that the person I am now was like a bubbling cancer beneath the surface and I gained enough independent power that I, the second personality, killed her and took over this body.
It rly shook me, and I think about it a lot. It's an insane thing to say to a stranger ! But pretty cool

This whole DOGE saga is unbelievable. I'm actually in awe at how little waste, fraud and abuse there apparently is in our federal government.

Elon Musk once promised $2 trillion in government savings. Today he says they’ll get $150 billion in FY26.

@HouseDemocrats @RepDeluzio Please, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart, go fuck yourselves.
English

For today's Democratic Daily Download: meet @RepDeluzio from Western PA.
He explains how Trump's trade policy has been a chaotic mess, but that tariffs—if done right and paired with strong pro-worker and industrial policies—can help supercharge manufacturing.
We're offering hardworking Americans real policies to strengthen their families and communities—not fake populism to distract from tax giveaways to robber barons and huge corporations.

@LittleMammith What I don't understand is how we got to a point where such a large percentage of the electorate is made up of these people
English

@MichaelDunwort1 @Leishman BTC still don't get it, it's not about the supply, it's about the security budget being certain. Can't build a cryptographically secure system on wobbling earth. They thought stable supply mattered, and in the process compromised their security.
English

ETH still don’t get it, it’s not about the supply being low, it’s about the supply being *certain*. Can’t build a house of wealth on wobbling earth. Like in Tokyo geologists will tell the architects how the buildings need to be structured. Certainty matters, heaps. They thought low supply mattered, and in the process compromised their certainty. 1/10 strategic choice.

It is when you simply imagine the first punch.
Matt Loesby@LoesbyForIdaho
@TheOmniLiberal Is it hypocrisy to say "I don't want to be in a fistfight," then when punched, to fight back?
English

@lisperati @ESYudkowsky @seanmcarroll Seconding Sean Carrol. I imagine he'd definitely have Yudkowsky on his podcast
English

@seanmcarroll is the scientist I know that has the most mainstream view on AI x-risk (i.e. "people have been worried about xrisks of all kind forever, can't give it much priority- also, something something many types of intelligences") that is still also capable of thoughtful, deep exploration of a topic
