@EddyTree1960 @JonBbC_TechGeek While that sounds simple, you’re asking people to spend more money to give Tesla more time to deliver what they already paid for. Many have opted for the paid transfer option, and your discount sweetens the deal, but it still requires a new purchase for something already sold.

Yeah, believe it or not, HW3 hasn’t gone away. Many people still care a lot about it. The fact this is the #1 voted question doesn’t surprise me at all.

@JonBbC_TechGeek To be fair, Elon said after they get Ai14 working then its HW3 time. I am saddened that all this is kicking off so soon. Like v14 has only been out less than a week. OZ is HW4 and v13. So let's all give it a bit of time, christ you have waited years, whats a few more months ?

EU wide FSD approval are NOT including cars allready taken into service, according to the Swedish Transport Administration. This would mean (if true) you would have to buy a brand new Tesla in order to use FSD.

@FuzzyUn1c0rn @villejuhani77 @LinkN01 Well, anything that changes the dynamic of the ride will need Type approval. This means from suspension to software. So yeah, software update that changes driving behaviour will be affected. But don't worry, you wont get it to download until it is approved.

@villejuhani77 @LinkN01 That is just stupid. So any software update is a vehicle modification then? Are we living in the stone age?

@tslaming @JonBbC_TechGeek Let me know when hw4 can handle entering parking and exiting a parking garage without going in circles... or when hw4 can drive in rain and heavy fog safely... or when hw4 can see stop signs and speed bumps without a traffic sign warning, or when hw4 can interpret parking signs..

BREAKING 🚨 Elon Musk indicated that the current AI4 is already enough to handle unsupervised FSD 🔥 AI5 chips will be used for Optimus robot and the supercomputer clusters 🔥 So if you want unsupervised FSD on your Tesla cars, no need to wait for AI5 🔥 This is HUGE 🔥

@teslaownersSV @TaiwanSemi_TSC @Samsung Optimus and our supercomputer clusters. AI4 is enough to achieve much better than human safety for FSD.

@praeteritia @PabluGablu @JonBbC_TechGeek For me, Tesla delivering autosteer on city streets that gets type approved in Europe on HW3 is making me whole. FWIW v12.6.4 was a distilled version of FSD13, so you can expect this 14lite to be something like 12.8.x or the like. It wont have 14 anywhere in the name I dont think

@PabluGablu @JonBbC_TechGeek so if Tesla delivered 14.3 on HW3 that would fulfill their obligations to deliver “Full Self-Driving” for those customers?

HW3 owners overseas who bought FSD between 2019-2021 have a right to be concerned or impatient with HW3 being left out if they aren’t aware of the future plans for their cars. It’s true. I don’t think you can just tell these owners to take a chill pill or step off their horses if they don’t know what’s going to happen. I doubt this movement will amount to anything because once FSD is approved in many other European countries, v14 Lite will be here and many owners will be extremely pleased that they waited. Tesla wouldn’t be able to do what they’re doing right now without these early adopters who paid good money for it, so of course Tesla will treat them right in the end. And Tesla has already laid out their plans very clearly, not just once, but 3 or more times. -Tesla will provide a free hardware upgrade for HW3 owners if it can’t achieve the safety level necessary to run unsupervised. It will be painful, but will have to be done. -Tesla will provide a v14 Lite for HW3 owners in the 2nd quarter of 2026. -Tesla will take care of their early adopters and HW3 owners. The next Tesla earnings call is on April 22nd. I guarantee this topic will come up again. If you don’t believe me, just tune in to that meeting and you can hear it for a 5th time.
Robin@m8nimal

HW3 owners needs to chill You ain’t entitled to anything in any specific deadline Tesla has stated V14 lite will probably go to HW3 this June So take a chill pill and get of your high horses 👀

@teslascope I don't get it. If you truly want FSD. Why not just pay for the HW4 retrofit? Maybe Tesla should just offer it for half the price.

We now have more confirmation that Full Self-Driving (Supervised) in Netherlands is for AI4 vehicles only at this time. This means that HW3 vehicles in the European Union will either have to wait for the release of V14 Lite or a future hardware upgrade to access FSD.
Xander@xanderwasserman

Confirmed: FSD (Supervised) in the Netherlands is only for HW4 at this moment. This has been the general consensus, but good to have it officially confirmed. @teslascope @KRoelandschap @Rustavi

UK Tesla FSD Approval: The general feeling is that FSD will be approved in the UK between this summer and January next year. We are estimating January at notanfsdtracker.com Either way this isn't that far away! What do you think?

Several reports coming in of Tesla AI/HW3 Employees and Early Access getting 2026.8.6.1 This update follows the last minute revoking of the 2026.8.6 version due to issues with reverse camera activation on some vehicles. We hope to also see a potential fix to break stabbing.

@kitt_2020 @thommcg1980 @tpgoebel Grok is not always accurate. FSD will need type approval for behaviour changes. All that means is that when tesla wants to add a new feature to consumer cars, it will be tested first. As for general improvement probably not, but we will find out soon enough.

Below is Grok's explanation about Shadow mode. The car has to be driven manually while FSD runs in the background. Also, I asked Grok if Tesla’s Shadow Mode can be used to validate FSD performance to a significant degree. It says that..... .. "Yes, Tesla’s Shadow Mode can be used to validate FSD performance to a significant degree. It runs the new FSD version silently in the background on customer cars and compares its decisions with the human driver. When there’s a big difference, it automatically saves clips for Tesla to analyze. This allows Tesla to test and improve FSD safely using millions of real-world miles before official release. However, it’s not perfect — regulators often still require real supervised driving data for final approval."

Does Tesla need a recertification of every future FSD update in the Netherlands now? Here’s how I understand the situation to be. TL;DR: Bug fixes or UI changes will not need a new approval. But changes to the car’s behavior will. In the US, the system is more liberal, and Tesla can self-certify and push OTA updates as much as they want. NHTSA then checks after the fact if it finds any problems. Very American. In the EU under the UNECE regulations, Tesla needs to provide significant telemetry data for any update that changes the car’s behavior. RDW will do a delta check on what’s new. This will not take 18 months each and every time – but people in Europe will not see updates as frequently as we have here in the US over the last few years. On the flipside, Europeans will benefit from fairly polished versions every time they get a new update. Here in the US, we have been suffering through many setbacks and regressions over the years.

Hmm, do you really trust Grok with stuff like that? 🤔 I don’t. Tesla keeps that sort of info super secret and never shares any details. So Grok has to sort through tons of speculation from random people on the internet who think and feel it’s been changing. Did Grok point to reputable sources? I agree with the wild differences in opinion on how good or bad it is! 😆

FSD slams on the brakes for a cat in the road that doesn’t even exist. This is FSD 12.6.4 on HW3, which is a lot more sensitive to shadows & objects in the road with the 2026.8.6 update. There are many reports of brake stabbing. It brings me back to the days when I was testing with v10.3 of FSD back in 2021. It’s interesting that it’s the same FSD version as before, and not something like 12.6.4.1, but I guess Tesla can change the weights without changing the version. And they’ve likely been doing this for a while with 12.6.4. 😒
