@CodeRed_dev They just come to me, I'm overflowing with them. Probably because I spend so much time day dreaming and have a very vivid imagination.

Literally just sit there, stare at a wall, and think.
My inspiration is sometimes about completely unrelated tasks or concepts, thinking about why they are engaging for my mind, and try to tease out its essence and think about if its possible to reformulate that essence in different mediums like a game/gameplay.

@CodeRed_dev usually I'm like "man I wish there was a game where _______" and then I remember I make video games so I start making it and then I remember I'm really bad at making video games

@CodeRed_dev I usually write down the things I love to do and the things I think the world needs to have (Currently, I have a long list of these.) Then, I identify the intersection of these ideas with my abilities, and the result becomes the rough idea I want to work on.

@CodeRed_dev They just come on their own.
But the only game I ever released, I planed on the whiteboard from the genre to individual mechanics. It was specifically to come up with an idea that I can finish in a few months because I was on a long streak of not finishing projects.

@CodeRed_dev I tend to think of games as fantasy fulfillment, so the question is what is the fantasy and how I can give players an idealized version of that experience. I usually think backward from realism until I find the degree of abstraction that seems like the most fun.

@CodeRed_dev Sometimes I like to think about daily things and how to "gamify" them.
Anything can be a game if you want! :D

@CodeRed_dev Observe reality, not other media.
Of course you're going to get inspired by other devs subconsciously, but to purposefully make derivative stuff in 2024 is incredibly cringe and lazy behavior. My 2 cents.

@CodeRed_dev I basically play with a lot of concepts and features when prototyping. When I see something engaging I keep polishing, to get a concrete idea.

@CodeRed_dev I just see random games sometimes and think "That'd be cool if it were done like this and had a much bigger scope than I'm capable of"

@CodeRed_dev Like others, from similar games (or not) as, there is always something to draw from, films /TV (depending the style and theme you go for) series, the real life environment and culture, architecture where one lives in.
