Tesla FSD on HW3 vs HW4 is becoming a tale of two very different systems. We tested both in rain, sun and obstacles to see just how large the gap has become. New video is live on YT.

@ItsKimJava TLDR; Driving wise, not much. However, HW3 has way too many "give up" scenarios mostly due to it's camera lens. Two main factors: 1) Sunlight rejection 2) Lower resolution. These two basically kill any hope that HW3 could potentially catch up to HW4.

@ItsKimJava you should have your side mirrors fold automatically when approaching and leaving your garage.

@ItsKimJava HW4 is the best until HW5 and then truly unsupervised FSD. All of us right now are guinea pigs until we figure it out finally. If I was a HW3 customer, I would have zero expectations that the company should make me whole etc. No different than any technology.

My AI3 robot can be really solid when the map errors aren’t constantly telling it to do the wrong thing. Rural USA is a very different story than what’s seen within the robotaxi networks. Map speed limit errors aren’t just hindering Tesla as I’ve validated other manufacturers nav/autonomy suffers from these errors also.

@ItsKimJava I have a HW3 MX and HW4 MY, the gap has gotten wider and wider between the two. I used to favor the X for driving but now I pick the Y

@ItsKimJava Glad you disengaged on the final test. I used Autopark back in early 2021 and it clipped a cement pillar by my spot in my parking garage. $2800 bobo. I won’t use Autopark in that scenario again but I have used it for parallel parking

@ItsKimJava This is mostly showing that the version on HW3 is very old, right? We haven't yet seen how far behind it will be when they finally get around to making more current software for HW3. It will presumably still be behind in capability, but probably not as far.

@ItsKimJava With 14.3.3? Not a chance! The FSD is great…the self parking is HORRIBLE. Too many people getting their cars hit, bumpers whacked, etc by auto parking. Tesla really screwed something up BAD

@ItsKimJava It's funny you posted this. My Mother in law was riding in my HW3 MX over the past weekend and she's been using her brand new Y with HW4 and she was noticing how much more the car dings and demands input compared to hers and how the HW3 got more confused in parking lots.

@ItsKimJava V12.6.4 and V14.3.3 have been two very different systems for about 18months or so. HW3 is maxed out and unless some radical new algorithm is developed, HW3 sadly will remain where it is at. Still amazing but not fulfilled for its intended use. 80% use cases is awesome though.

@ItsKimJava I prefer HW3 for now, I absolutely need control of my speed. I can’t imagine having no way to adjust the speed, what a nightmare.

@ItsKimJava I don’t expect complete full-autonomy unsupervised to be perfected until at least HW/AI7. HW/AI5-6 for the next 5-10 years will still push FSD technology but we’ll still see kinks and issues until then.
