@adamjones8350 @Aviation_Tex @Aviation_Intel I think it's actually a bodge to let the A-10 tank off the new KC-46s. The A-10 cannot use the refueling boom from the KC-46 but it can at least use the drogue now, or tank off a C-130

Power Banks on airplanes worry me the most. Never pack them in a checked bag. The cargo compartment has a fire detection system, and a gas fire suppression system (like halon, but I don’t recall if that’s it). Still, we can’t get into it in flight to fight a fire. For carry on, pack it where it’s easily accessible. The idea will be to remove it & put it in a “fire bag” which are pretty effective at containing battery fires. That’s harder to do if you’ve packed it beneath a bunch of stuff that may now also be on fire. If you drop your phone in the seat & can’t find it, do NOT move your seat. You may crunch the phone & ignite the battery. Ask a Flight Attendant for assistance. A cabin fire is at the top of most of our worst nightmares. The Oxygen masks won’t drop – they don’t seal, so it won’t keep smoke out & now we’re feeding pure oxygen to a fire. We’ll be diverting immediately, but it will take time to get on the ground. If the smoke gets too bad, we can “dump” the cabin pressure if needed & clear it out pretty quickly, but that’s a last resort & wont work well below 10,000’ or so. I’ve been told China is starting to ban power banks on airplanes. We may eventually get to that point here. If you have to bring one, make sure it’s in good condition. If you have one of those suitcases with a built in battery, just be aware you’ll have to remove it before checking your bag. If it’s carry on, make sure you can get it out of the bag quickly if needed. Thank you & fly safe!

@seanapriori The issue is that there is no real solution to an onboard lithium fire other than trying to land ASAP and hope the fire doesn't spread too fast and kill people. Aviation is extremely risk-averse and will limit anything that can bring down a plane

If power banks are banned this will completely destroy my travel workflow. I NEED two fully charged max size batteries and I often end up going through both of them. Power outlets in the seats does not fix this. This is concerning. How common are fires anyway?

@DanTalks1 They should also bring back the cool flag with the rays. Also... we should find some way to apologize for destroying all their samuirai swords. That was kind of sad. We could have just kept them in a museum for 50 years.

@GregSuburban @memeticsisyphus Iran is more ‘civilized’ than Afghanistan from the start so at worst it’ll end up like another 2003 Iraq. Which Tbf, isn’t too bad as now they’re a somewhat functioning democracy aligned with the US

@chhopsky Same thing with pushups too. Used to barely hit 20 in one set but after doing 10 and now 15 pushups every hour for a few months I can hit about 60+ in a single go. End goal is 100 in one go by the end of summertime

@skooookum Even the real answer that pretty terrifying, because it’s literally cosmic rays hitting the brain of the astronaut and causing them to see things as the ray shreds the neurons in its path. Basically causes super cancer and reduced brain mass if you’re in space too long

@Icekiller369 @SalvadorMu33717 @Ejmiller25 @KurtSchlichter Not really nowadays. If you go to the Academy or do ROTC you can get a pilot slot with 0 hours. OTS is much harder but possible still. The Navy though will take 0 hour dudes guaranteed with a high enough GPA and ASTB score since their pilots keep retiring.

That location confirmed by @andynovy is just 50km from the City Centre of Isfahan, a city with about 2.2m Inhabitants. The IRGC cant prevent an enemy ad-hoc Airfield half an hour drive from one of the largest cities in country.

@ErnestLemingway @cirnosad It’s a two part problem. The metal leading edge of the blade is melted and deformed but you can see the composite blade is frayed and delaminated behind the metal edge.

@juuceboxx @cirnosad Composite blades do not melt and deform. They delaminate. You can look at wind turbine fires to see this. This said, looking at how they bend in different directions I'm inclined to believe that the impact deformation assumption is incorrect.

Anyone with a modicum understanding of physics knows this is a crash. Look at the angular bend on the propellers. This aircraft was shot down. The proximity of the helicopter parts indicate that it was shot down as a unit. This was a mass casualty event for AFSOC. Disaster.
