🇺🇸🇳🇬 JUST IN – “Nigeria Is at a Breaking Point… If This Doesn’t Stop, Nigeria Will Split”
~ Christian Survivors Break Down at U.S. Capitol
Survivors of violent attacks in Nigeria delivered emotional and disturbing firsthand testimonies at a U.S. Capitol briefing titled “The Genocide Against Christians Rages On.”
The session, organized by the USA–Nigeria Civil Society Coalition, brought together U.S. lawmakers, faith leaders, and human rights advocates, with victims recounting killings, abductions, church burnings, and mass displacement.
A key reference point during the testimonies was the recent attack on Ngoshe community in Gwoza LGA, Borno State, where reports indicate multiple fatalities and the abduction of over 300 residents, mostly women and children, alongside widespread destruction and displacement.
Survivors described communities being “wiped out,” “overrun,” and “left with nothing,” with accounts also referencing repeated assaults and sexual violence, including what was described as the “Rape of Ngoshe.”
Former U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, Sam Brownback, warned:
“Nigeria is at a breaking point.”
He escalated his warning during the briefing:
“If this doesn’t stop… it’s going to lead to broader bloodshed throughout Nigeria, probably splitting up the country.”
Brownback stressed that the situation is no longer sustainable, cautioning that continued inaction could trigger greater instability and possible national fragmentation.
Participants presented documented claims of targeted attacks, village razings, and large-scale displacement, while urging the U.S. government to take stronger action on the worsening insecurity in Nigeria.
No immediate policy decisions have been announced following the briefing. Organizers say the aim is clear:
“The voices of the victims are heard directly by policymakers.”
Further updates are expected.
