Statistics can be used to support the point (and are in this thread): the US recorded 288 school shootings from 2009-2018 compared to single-digit totals in countries like Mexico (8) and South Africa (6), far exceeding peers. But then, Mexico is a narco state with a murder rate 4-5 times higher than the USA. Kidnapping is a major industry. There's an active genocide in South Africa. Nigeria has strict gun laws, almost no school shootings (4 in the same period), except where it comes to Christians being slaughtered. Before the 2022 invasion, Ukraine had restrictive gun laws rooted in Soviet-era policies. They don't now. Everyone loves Ukraine, right? The UK has strict gun laws, but 50,000 knife crimes a year. I could go on. The problem is humans and consequences. In America, part of the calculus of committing violence is the immediate consequence of doing so. The worst places in America have very restrictive local gun laws and low consequences. The safest places in America have high gun ownership and a palpable perception of high consequence. You can keep your statistics, and live by them, if you can.

They use value stream maps, statistics, and hard-won expertise to ensure a banana arrives from halfway around the world at peak ripeness—not a day early or late. Every single product category gets the same treatment: bananas, fish, meat, dairy... Everything has its own optimization. The complexity is unimaginable. I owe $11,600 in federal taxes. $4,000 was because my side biz did better than expected. Thats great. But $7,600 was because “Obamacare” says I made too much money.
