The worst part of this tweet is the idea that humans have a "biological destiny. The history of humanity, at least post-Renaissance, is about refusing to be trapped by biology, both physically (inventing tools that radically mitigate biological problems and allow us to do things humans are not biologically capable of doing, like flying) and psychologically and socially. We have biological limits and constraints, both individually and as a species (most obviously, we all get old, get sick, and die), but within those constraints we are free to invent ourselves and our futures - which is the essential American impulse. Talk of biological destiny is just a way to confine people to a narrow way of life. If you want to have kids, you should - they're great. If you don't, you shouldn't. Become what you are, not what Katie Miller thinks you're supposed to be.

@redsteeze Conservatives love trains. They just know the math doesn't work in most cases in the US, especially in California. For example, Brightline in Florida. Massively, insanely cheaper, with a solid business case. I've used it to go from Orlando to Miami, and it was great.

Every "conservative" would absolutely love to take a coastal high speed rail from LA to San Fran complete with ocean side view and everything. Charge $17 a drink. They would pay it. Now go find out why that super cool high speed choo choo train you're posting isn't from California.

The persistence of the cult of Tesla stockholders is odd. Over the past 5 years, Tesla is up 63%. The S&P 500 is also up 63%, but its total return is 71% with dividends. So Tesla has underperformed the market as a whole, with a lot more volatility. Why the unblinking faith?

@TheLaurenChen I was a waiter for a few years. It blew my mind that I got paid that well to greet a guest, bring them a drink, ask them what they wanted, tell the cooks, make sure drinks/condiments were provided, and take payment at the end. That’s all i did. Crazy payment for that.

Assuming these people were at the restaurant for 2 hours A $60 tip means this server made $30/hour off this ONE TABLE Is that not enough for a waiter to make? Does being a waiter really need to be a $150/hour job? The entitlement behind a lot of tipping culture is insane
