NEW: Over $50,000 has been raised for a Domino’s delivery driver who went out of his way to get his customer's Diet Coke when he realized that Domino's was out. 68-year-old Dan Simpson of Boise, Idaho has gone viral for his kind act. "[Dan] had stopped at the store himself to pick up Diet Coke for us. On a busy Friday night. During deliveries. Completely out of his own time and effort," the customers said on GoFundMe. "[Dan's] been working at Domino’s as a second job for 14 years… and he’s retiring in just a few weeks..." About $50,000 has been raised for Dan so far. Amazing. Video: katey_93 / tt.

The craziest thing ever happened on YouTube. La7, an Italian television channel has used footage from Nvidia DLSS 5 Trailer and then sent a copyright strike to every YouTube video that supposedly used “their footage”, including Nvidia themselves. Nvidia’s own DLSS 5 announcement video has now been taken down by La7 as you can see here.

Jeff Bezos has $222 billion. If he paid my wealth tax this year, we could fund insulin in America for everyone who needs it plus free school lunch for every kid in Texas—and have plenty of money left over. And Bezos would still have $215 billion dollars to spare.

This stuff is literally not real. I give this feature 6-12 months tops before they remove it, bookmark this and confim. Like what do you mean you want me to pick how hard my model wants to try? I want it to try its hardest, always, and I want it to be fast. Why would I ever need to consider tradeoffs when doing knowledge work with AI.

This man was pumping gas at the gas station, as it approached 16 gallons of gas he knew he was going to reach what he wanted to pay. So when it went over 16 he was surprised and tried to stop the pump. He hit the release tab on the pump handle and it does nothing. It still pumps. It’s now approaching 24 gallons and he knows it’s going to flood and overflow his tank. Sure enough, as soon as he hit 24, gas spilled out onto the concrete. He panics and runs to hit the emergency shut off on the building. It cuts off power to the pumps and cuts out the lights. Did he wait way too long to shut it off or at least notify someone, what would you have done?

ex-Amazon VP (@EthanEvansVP): "One of the hardest things for people to understand is I've identified a legitimate weakness in my boss. I go to my skip. Why doesn't he do something? Well, if you come to me with a weakness in one of my employees, there is subconsciously this process that goes on that says, I have two choices. I can believe that you're overly sensitive and high maintenance. In which case, I don't really have a problem. You are the problem. And you know, you're two levels down for me. So if you quit, well, the manager has to do the backfill. And I can tell the manager, you know, Ryan was here. He said this, that and the other. Maybe you can work with him. And that's exactly what you don't want is me ratting you out. But I can make it my manager's problem. On the other hand, if I agree with you and I'm like, you know what, this manager I have really isn't that good. Now I have three problems. This is really bad for me. One, I have to decide what to do with my manager. Maybe I have to manage them out. Two, if I do manage them out, I have to hire and train somebody else. And three, while they're gone, I have to do all their work myself. So you can see why, even if it's subconscious, I have a lot of reasons not to listen "
Ryan Peterman@ryanlpeterman

I don't think you'll be able to find a conversation like this one on the internet. I interviewed @EthanEvansVP (former Amazon VP) about every possible corporate politics situation I could think of and he told me everything since he's retired. Topics we covered: • Managing people out + promos via reorgs • Orgs trying to steal scope • How to fire managers • What leverage engineers have when getting managed out • Handling politically skilled operators • Examples of political messaging • Handling bad managers and mutiny • Empire building + effective backchanneling • Influence without authority • How to avoid politics if you hate them It was fascinating in a morbid curiosity kind of way. I heard so many things in this conversation which I wish weren't true but are. Hopefully this conversation is helpful for people navigating corporate politics. One cable. One port. Zero room for error. This is the kind of task that looks simple — until a robot has to do it reliably in a tight space. In this demo, a RealMan robotic arm performs Ethernet cable insertion inside a server rack.
