Funny to see the politicians who were delivering donuts to the Convoy that were honking their truck horns at all hours, blockading downtown Ottawa, and being nuisances to residents for weeks all of a sudden concerned with two hours of less noise in Calgary.

City Hall gatekeepers are making a big mistake killing jobs, smothering country music culture, and cutting back performances at the world-famous Cowboys celebration during the Calgary Stampede. Millions flock to the Stampede because IT IS FUN to stay up late and listen to loud music. That brings nearly a billion dollars in tourism and excitement for the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. Hopefully, City Hall will let this 30-year-old music event continue as it has in years past and grow.

Cowboys was told again in May. The exemption was conditional. It depended on operators managing noise, safety, and impacts on nearby residents. They did not meet that standard. We are taking public safety in our downtown seriously. Last year several hundred people brought complaints. People reported property damage, windows shaking, items falling from shelves, music until 2 a.m., disorder, and excessive intoxication spilling into nearby neighbourhoods. The City still permits concerts until midnight on weeknights, with cool-down music past midnight. Weekend concerts run until 1:30 a.m., with cool-down music until 2 a.m. No gets a free pass to disturb residents or create unsafe conditions. A great city backs major events and holds operators accountable.

Rona is right. If the @cityofcalgary wants to keep building a world class city, it can't changes the rules on major music festival operators like @CowboysFestival days before their event. Great acts won't come here with that uncertainty. I hope @JeromyYYC understands that.

You know, I think that's a fair point. But in most of the city that comes in the form of Stampede breakfasts and the like, not super loud music tents. My hope is the city and Cowboys come to a compromise for this year, and that eventually the music festival returns to the Stampede grounds, where it won't prevent regular people from getting a good night's sleep if they're not attending.

The Stampede is an event that encompasses the entire city. Particularly downtown.
It's not just a rodeo or a midway fair.
That's what makes it so unique.

People should be free to worship, work and walk our streets without fear. The attack in Edinburgh is disturbing. Violence in our streets is bad enough but reports indicate some of the victims were targeted because they were Muslim. This is abhorrent.
I am glad police acted swiftly. The victims and their families deserve justice, and the public must have confidence that the law applies equally to everyone.

So I had my ex brother-in-law and sister-in-law stay over last night. Still two of my best friends after 40 years despite divorcing my ex-wife.
I don't hold judgment for the fact that they are still loyal to Tim's and actually like their coffee 🤷
So this morning we walked the block to my local Tim's, which I have never set foot in before. Ordered a decaf for my ex sister-in-law and they didn't have any. It's not that it wasn't made yet, but they didn't have any in the building.

@SnafuAB Cowboys moved to this new location last year in a secretive deal with The City with no consultation with residents. Ending music by midnight during the week makes sense.
