BMC’s pre monsoon preparedness meet: On Tuesday a multi-agency review meeting was held at the @mybmc headquarters which was attended by officials from MMRDA, MHADA, India Meteorological Department, railways, National Disaster Response Force, Navy etc. A total of 547 portable dewatering pumps will be deployed across Mumbai this year while 10 mobile pump units mounted on vehicles will be stationed for rapid response in waterlogging hotspots. Pumping stations across the city are being activated in a phased manner, with full manpower deployment on a 24x7 basis by mid-May. The number of dewatering pumps have been increased from 515 last year to 547 this monsoon. This year in a first the civic body has also introduced geo-fencing and real-time monitoring of pumps to improve response time during heavy rainfall events. On the road repair front, the civic body will close all ongoing works before May 31. A total of 174 dangerous buildings across Mumbai, have been identified urging residents to vacate immediately to avoid loss of life during heavy rains. Last year there were 163 dilapidated buildings identified.

Everyone has right to protest but not certainly by blocking the roads, & footpaths as if it is their own private property. In Mumbai, there is hardly any footpaths & wider road, if they also get illegally occupied by politicians, then outburst of citizens anger is obvious.
