@tzsawyer @HQNewsNow Trump and the republicans literally started this when Trump asked for Texas to redraw their districts to net more Republican congressional reps.
Dems are also the only party that has voted for a national gerrymandering ban. Republicans keep blocking it every single time.
English

The old two wrongs make a right stance. Ok, the last 4 cycles (8 years) seems to be pretty balanced - so what the problem now? The party in power suffers from TDS so the rest of Virginians lose their fair voting rights out of spite and hate because that's who they are.

@PolShitpostAlt @_sn_n Schumer isn’t perfect but there is no shot he’s bringing a Trump nominee to a senate vote if they are anywhere to the right of Merrick Garland.
English
@_sn_n Ah, you’re right. Okay, new problem though….
English

If the Dems win the Senate in Nov, they should keep the seat open until a Democrat is president.

Do you think Justice Alito will retire from the Supreme Court this year? 33% chance he retires by the end of the year
English

@hilltowntrader @GiveMeADouble @micyoung75 The legislature passes a law stating that all people named Jake must be executed. The governor then signs it.
Who do you think would be the branch that says “you can’t just kill people for being named Jake”?

Indiana Republicans passed Senate Bill 10 to ban student IDs from the polls. Student IDs that had been valid at Indiana polling places for nearly two decades.
Federal Judge Richard L. Young blocked it Tuesday. His language was pointed and precise: "SB 10 looks more like a solution in search of a problem."
The court found that roughly 40,000 Indiana students would have been affected. It found those students are significantly less likely than other voters to carry driver's licenses or other qualifying IDs. It found the burden was real and the harm irreversible - because elections don't have second chances.
And it found this: "There is no evidence that student IDs have been used to engage in voter fraud or any other voting-related misconduct."
Not insufficient evidence. No evidence. Nineteen years of student IDs at Indiana polls and nothing happened that SB 10 was supposed to prevent.
The Republican National Committee stepped in to defend the ban in court filings, arguing it was a neutral policy choice. Judge Young did not find it neutral. He found that eliminating the one ID category most relied on by young voters - without documenting any problem it caused - imposed an unconstitutional burden.
Indiana statehouse Republicans passed this bill while Indiana students study at Purdue, IU, Notre Dame, Ball State, Vincennes, and IVSCC... and carry the student IDs those schools issue. The courts just told them to keep voting.

@viresinnumeri @andy_hilton @GovRonDeSantis @RaysBaseball SoFi stadium and T-Mobile Arena were both 100% privately funded.
Also, just because most modern stadiums are publicly funded doesn’t mean they should be.
English

@andy_hilton @GovRonDeSantis @RaysBaseball Good luck finding a modern stadium that wasn't built with public funds
English

The construction of a new Rays stadium and surrounding entertainment district will ensure that @RaysBaseball remains in Tampa Bay for the long-term, will be good for Hillsborough College, and will transform the Dale Mabry site into an economic asset that will benefit the city, county and region.
As leaders in Hillsborough convene to forge a path that will keep @MLB in Tampa Bay, I hope the commissioners keep an open mind and consider the potential of the full-spectrum vision for the site that goes beyond baseball—and which can enhance the economy and culture of Hillsborough County for years to come.
Let’s get it done!

@KirkvdHeydt @MistrrMax @greg16676935420 Incorrect on why it was discontinued. It was massively popular but Intuit and H&R Block are massive Republican donors. They pressured Trump to kill the program, which he did.
English
The IRS did actually try that in a pilot program in a limited area. It was called Direct File. The program didn't get the participation it thought it would, so it was discontinued for 2026. However the IRS does have partners that are free to people under a certain income. You can find it here: irs.gov/e-file-do-your…

@mutantballer @OhhMar24 Bane has been one of the best parts of this team, and part of that deal was dumping KCP’s salary. The trade wasn’t bad at all, it’s been Mosely’s awful adjustment and leadership styles, Paolo’s regression, lack of cohesion between the players, and injuries.
English

@AliceWatch @TheDemocrats Yes thank you for the information I already knew, since my taxes required additional forms that TurboTax wanted me to pay for.
English

@ItsFreakinHarry @TheDemocrats You can file for free with TurboTax if you have a simple tax return (Form 1040 only) and take the standard deduction.
English

@AliceWatch @TheDemocrats TurboTax wouldn’t let me do my taxes for free, and I live in a state with zero income tax. They wanted to charge me $40 just to do my taxes.
FreeTaxUSA let me do them for free but it’s still ridiculous that they killed a free option.
English

@TheDemocrats You can still file with TurboTax for free. Why lie?

@Deezy2158 @JakeSherman @EWErickson VA was literally a response to Texas. Have you called out Texas for silencing Republicans?
Democrats have proposed nationwide gerrymandering bans for years. Republicans have blocked them every time.
English
@JakeSherman @EWErickson I can accept this.
If VA votes to silence Republicans, then Florida must act.
Otherwise, it’s not necessary. It’s an ugly thing to do unless forced.

🚨BIG REDISTRICTING NEWS in Midday edition
RON DESANTIS is considering delaying the state's April 20 special session for redistricting.
DeSantis is expected to redraw the Florida congressional map to add between two and five new red seats, a huge plus for Republicans in the national redistricting battle.
Now, DeSantis is mulling whether to push the special session back until after the results of the April 21 redistricting referendum in Virginia.

@NotBeingQuiet @pablo5425 @Pirat_Nation …or more, game developers should not have a unilateral right to revoke your ability to continue playing that game. (3/3)
English

@NotBeingQuiet @pablo5425 @Pirat_Nation … they should not be allowed to reap the benefits of the purchase, since they are now altering the terms of the deal.
I wouldn’t be opposed to a scenario where we only legally require partial refunds based on date of purchase, but even if you play a game for 1000 hours… (2/3)
English

@jxcxbrxss @Weasel9100 Correct. Republican Floridians *hate* the national Democratic Party, but when they just focus on the individual candidates they don’t become as hateful.
English

@Weasel9100 National Dems staying the fuck out of Florida is exactly how they win again here.
English

Dems finally giving up on Florida and not spending a dollar there only to win the Governorship for the first time in 30 years would be extremely funny

@ChrisPacia @PatrickHeizer Salary increases, increased cost of goods, increased costs of benefits, it all has to come from somewhere.
English
@PatrickHeizer You must not be a property tax payer.
Every year they raise property taxes yet they don't increase the services.
It's just the bureaucracy taking a bigger cut for themselves.
English

@Vertok55 @PatrickHeizer Especially those who argue “I don’t have kids so why should I pay for schools?!”
English
@PatrickHeizer I didn't mean it was politically viable, but the OP saying it's "frustrating" when people look into what property tax pays for are often people who don't want to pay for schools.
English

@itsmemadgirl @depthsofwiki I'd argue this is not breaking it since while the description itself is funny, it's still cited by a source (and specifically it's from the Strong National Museum of Play itself, which runs the NTHOF.)
English
@depthsofwiki Does this break Wikipedia's no joking policy? This seems to be in same category as Guy Standing's photo to me, in the sense that both are technically true, but are depicted in a humorous manner. Please let me know!

@_CATNERD2 @crimsonace Which is really sad and pathetic for an athletics organization to do.
English

@crimsonace All of this can be outsourced without paying state mandated benefits.
English

Firing your entire athletic comms staff is really dumb, because they have a LOT of roles that are not just promotion (website, social media), but also in NCAA-mandated record-keeping and statistical work for all sports. They also help broadcasters/media promote to a mass audience

@WorthlessWomen @theactualrob @jaysbookman Not all road maintenance (especially local roads) are funded via gas tax and vehicle sales tax.
And no, I don’t. We live in a society where the government has an obligation to provide services and security, and that costs money. That has to come from somewhere.
