@FreightAlley Always wanted to ask this question to someone with more experience than me: Why is that post-Katrina, diesel flipped to being more expensive than unleaded? If memory serves, wasn't unleaded previously always a premium to diesel?

Little secret: The large truckload carriers love a consolidated truckstop industry. When Pilot and Flying J were contemplating a merger, the DOJ reached out to the largest carriers and asked their opinion. They were generally supportive. They wanted consolidation in retail fuel. Why? Less competition for truckstop diesel means a higher retail to wholesale spread. This helps inflate the margins that large carriers make on fuel surcharges.

@SkylarKaede @alexjoelee @TracketPacer Oh my god 60 for a 1k ft box? Eeeeek! I've ripped it out before when electricians helpers bought the material to do a job. Like... youre just going to have to rip it out and replace it.

@alexjoelee @TracketPacer it's usually shitty cable that comes out of the box already half tangled but it's also like 60 bucks for a thousand feet sometimes CCA is good enough for the job, just like sometimes a cheap aliexpress part is a fine substitute for a name brand

@yeehawitsjake The L1 should carry me on most days but today was a bunch of driving around getting lots of little stuff done. Gotta install the 220V shortly. I ran the conduit for it, just have to run the wire. Smart me could have also run a 6awg/4 wire romex too but nope... I ran a 1" conduit.

@rootpoint Pretty similar for any L1 charger - takes about 3ish days on my Model 3, but I can't exactly install a higher output charger right now. Wish they'd just stick some solar panels at this rate on top for the days I don't drive

This morning @scratchyjohnson tweeted an important factoid. Squanto, the Indian who spoke English and helped the pilgrims survive, was sold by John Smith to a Spaniards and the deed exists in the city we're in for Excursion. Rather than rolling our eyes, Alan, Gavin & I went to the state archives in Málaga to see if we can find said recorded deed of 20 Indians sold by John Smith to Juan Bautista Reales. We get to the Archives (see Alan's picture below), and a small genial white lab coat wearing gentleman who speaks no English says this is impossible to find. His new boss, the head archivist, Carmen, comes in and says it certainly exists but may be difficult to find. If you only had the year. We tell her it was 1614. She pulls up a list of the books from 29 notaries whose work they have from 1614. She asks who the notary was. We have no idea. They say they can't go through 29 archives to look for it. Also it's all in old Spanish which nobody speaks and it'll be hard to locate even if they know the Notary. So Alan and Gavin get to work. Gavin finds an article in the internet archive that seems to have a partial picture of the document. Carmen and the other archivist decipher the name after 15 min. They find that name in their cross reference. Carmen goes to the vault to look while the lab coat gentleman asks for my life history, driver's licence number and a lien on my grandchildren. Totally worth it. Carmen comes back to say she found the volume. It is tremendously delicate. Opening it may break some pages. Does it have to be today because if so the answer will be no. We ask her if this is interesting to them. Both very seriously nod their heads. We tell them this is very important to the United States and many of our friends. Carmen tells us she will find it but that it takes time. White linen gloves and patience. We tell her to take her time. She says she will take a picture and email it to me. So here's why all this is important: after Squanto was sold by an Englishman to a Spaniard names Reales, said Spaniard brought Squanto and 19 other "inios" to Málaga. He recorded the deed in the state archives. Then a Franciscan priest ransomed Squanto. Squanto became Catholic. Was baptized and confirmed in Málaga. He then made his way to England where he worked and learned English. He paid his passage back across the ocean and found his Wampanoag tribesmen. Then when the Pilgrims landed they found a Catholic English-speaking native who helped them survive their first winter. It is entirely possible that but for a Franciscan priest who ransomed Squanto, the Pilgrims may not have survived their first winter in New England. That's history. American history. And the record of it is in Málaga. In a book. One of 29 books kept by notaries in Málaga in 1614. That are still searchable. This image, when it comes, belongs in the US National Archive. This is Cultural Debris. x.com/i/status/20349… cc: @alancornett @gwbled @Gonnassaurius_ @wrathofgnon

@vxunderground The prior owners of my house sold it to me but fled to Puerto Rico and never paid off their boat loan. I would get repo guys coming to look to repo the boat for about 8 months. I finally told one guy I would give him the address for $100. Never had another visit

Dawg, like, 8 months ago this dude randomly knocks on my door and he's like, "are you John Strawberry?" (not the actual name he said). I'm like, "....No?" and he's like, "Well, do you know where he is or how to find him?" I reply, "I have no idea who that is, sorry." and then I go on about my business and I forget about it. Bro shows up again a few months later knocking on my door asking for John Strawberry. This time my wife answered the door and he's yapping about how he has to return something really important to him. My wife is like "??? Who the FUCK is John Strawberry ???" Fast forward, this whacko shows up AGAIN. This time he parks outside my house. He knocks on the door. He says his car broke down and he needs help. I'm like, "weren't you the dude asking for John Strawberry?" and he's like, "Oh, do you know John Strawberry? How can I contact him?" I'm like ??? This dude drives by my house now AT LEAST once a week. He rolls by real slow and takes a look and then leaves. Then the police show up asking for John Strawberry. They say they have a warrant out for his arrest and my home was listed as last known good address. DAMN YOU JOHN STRAWBERRY

The American dream for first time homer buyers. Buy a duplex. 5% down to buy it, live in one unit, collect $10,000/mo from your Boomer millionaire parents who rent the other unit. The mortgage payment is only $2,500/mo so you get paid ~$7,500/mo to live there. Put $7,500/mo into index funds while living there 7-10 years. Poof. You're the millionaire instead of your Boomer parents. Why aren’t more young people doing this?

@kchau @DavidMoss I can get almost 3 mi/kWh in town in my Silverado EV Trail Boss Max Range when it's nice and warm out. That's 333 Wh/mi for a 4 ton vehicle. Seems pretty efficient to me considering the lifetime efficiency in my '25 Model Y Performance is 332 Wh/mi and it weighs half as much!

@MarsLPadNine @grok @amuse @JessicaTarlov Only 5 states have Enhanced Drivers Licenses (EDL) that meet the requirements to prove citizenship, as Real ID does not. VA does not, but these do: Michigan Minnesota New York Vermont Washington Real IDs don't prove citizenship, the EDLs do. So you couldn't use your ID to vote

Republicans are lying to the American people when they say the SAVE Act is a voter ID law—it’s a proof-of-citizenship requirement that would make voting harder, if not impossible, for a lot of people. Passports are expensive, documents don’t always match, and the process can be a mess (been there). We should be making voting easier, not adding more hurdles. Democrats can own this by proposing their own bill that accepts a range of IDs, and includes automatic voter registration and Election Day as a national holiday for starters.

If youq garden– flowers vegetables whatever – please don't use pesticides. We need the insects particularly bees that help green growing things flourish. I was an avid gardener for years when I lived in the house by the lake vegetables fruits flowers herbs everything and I never used a pesticide and if you're growing shrub fruits it's easy to get netting to put around them so birds can't get at the developing fruit.
