⭕️ Dr. Jamil Suleiman, head of Al-Rantisi Children’s Hospital in Gaza: ▪️ A noticeable increase in the number of children infected with chickenpox has pushed us to take urgent field steps to monitor and document cases arriving at hospitals, after the virus has become a real and direct threat. ▪️ Overcrowding in shelters is directly contributing to the rapid spread of infection; the harsh environmental conditions have made chickenpox a compounded danger that severely affects the most vulnerable groups. ▪️ We warn of the risk of cases developing into serious and concerning complications, such as brain inflammation, especially among young children and those with weakened immune systems amid the ongoing environmental deterioration.

In Al-Gezira State, #Sudan, the impact of the war has gone far beyond immediate violence. After the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) took control of the state, civilians were subjected to a wide range of violations, including systematic sexual violence against women and girls. These violations have left deep and lasting marks on everyday life, and on girls’ ability to remain in school. In this new documentary by SIHA Network, produced in collaboration with Ayin Network, “The Henna Tree” examines the impact of the war on girls’ education, and what it means to hold on to learning in a context shaped by insecurity, deteriorating school conditions, and the economic, psychological, and social pressures imposed by war. Drawing on the lived experiences of families and girls from Al-Gezira, the documentary explores the return to education as part of a broader process of recovery, and reflects on the barriers that continue to stand in the way of many girls returning to school. Today marks the 30th anniversary of the Qana massacre, which occurred on 18 April 1996 when Israeli warplanes shelled a United Nations compound in Qana, southern Lebanon. The attack killed 106 civilians, including a large number of women and children, and injured 116 others who had sought shelter inside the UN facility. The strike took place during an Israeli military offensive in Lebanon at the time, and the compound was hosting displaced civilians fleeing attacks.
