OUR LAWS AND DEMOCRACY MUST BE PROTECTED AT ALL TIMES
The Nigerian Bar Association @NigBarAssoc has closely monitored recent political and legal developments as the nation gradually approaches the 2027 General Elections. These developments, particularly those arising from the interpretation and potential application of provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, raise serious constitutional, democratic, and rule-of-law concerns that require immediate intervention.
We particularly deprecate the disturbing involvement by lawyers and courts in the internal affairs of political parties despite the clear provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026, which stipulates in Section 83 of the Act that “No court in Nigeria shall entertain jurisdiction over any suit or matter pertaining to the internal affairs of a political party.”
Not only are courts denied jurisdiction to entertain any matter pertaining to the internal affairs of a political party, but they are also precluded from granting any interim or interlocutory injunction even where any action has been brought in violation of the Act. The section further provides that “Where such an action is brought in negation of this provision, no interim or interlocutory injunction shall be entertained by the Court, but the Court shall suspend its ruling and deliver it at the stage of final judgment and shall give accelerated hearing to the matter”.
What we now see are situations where actions are not only instituted in Courts by lawyers in clear violation of the Act, but Courts purportedly grant interim and/or interlocutory injunctions in clear contempt of statutory provisions of the law. This does not augur well for our democracy. Democracy will not thrive in a situation where lawyers and courts take actions and decisions that not only negate our laws but also do violence to them. This emerging trend of subverting the clear letters of the Electoral Act and dragging courts into the internal affairs of political parties through disingenuous litigation, forum shopping, and malafide applications designed to secure undemocratic political advantage, bodes no good for our democracy. Such practices, if not immediately curbed, would directly contradict the clear intendment of the Electoral Act and risk transforming the judicial processes into avenues for political score-settling or electoral manipulation.
We must reiterate that these provisions were clearly designed to curb abuse of court processes and discourage forum shopping in political disputes. This is therefore why the NBA is concerned that the abuse, misapplication, or selective deployment of these provisions may create opportunities for manipulation capable of undermining democratic competition and shrinking the political space.
Members of the Bar are reminded that they are Ministers in the Temple of Justice and not political agents seeking judicial endorsement of partisan objectives. The filing of actions intended to draw courts into internal political party disputes, particularly where jurisdiction is expressly excluded, constitutes an abuse of court process and a violation of professional responsibility.
The NBA will take firm steps to deter such conduct. Lawyers who deliberately file actions aimed at procuring judicial interference in intra-party affairs, or who seek ex parte or interlocutory orders in clear violation of statutory provisions, risk facing disciplinary proceedings. We will not hesitate to present petitions before the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) against any Legal Practitioner found to be engaging in such conduct. This will be pursued decisively to serve as a deterrent and to preserve the sanctity of the judicial process.
The Nigerian judiciary must stay vigilant and resist being drawn into political theatrics. Courts should firmly decline invitations, no matter how artfully crafted, to intervene in matters the law explicitly bars them from.

If you're working for someone and you find out that your monthly salaries aren't enough..
Better resign honorably than to start indulging in criminality.
Our honorable Commissioner for Transportation should caution most of our Green shuttle electric bus drivers.
Today, my wife used the Green shuttle from Aba to Umuahia.
They boarded at Bata Junction. Could you believe that many passengers were stranded and were trying to enter the bus?
At one point, both the driver and conductor insisted that the bus was filled up.
They left when they got to Osisioma Junction, stopped to pick up extra passengers, and collected ₦1000 each from those passengers. Because many wanted to get to Umuahia, most passengers stood up inside the bus, which we usually call Akanelu.
This action resulted in some passengers getting angry and warning the driver about such acts.
During this trip, at every junction they dropped passengers, they would pick new ones and collect money in hand.
This is what I call revenue leakages. Because all the money they collected in cash would be shared between the driver and conductor. I'm also aware that this bus operates with a CCTV, meaning it's simple to trace these revenue leakages so they won't continue.
These are my personal observations.
May Abia Green shuttle drivers succeed
, I mean the genuine drivers and not those criminals putting on white shirts and black caps.

According to the @StateDept, Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (@inecnigeria), though supported by the United States and the European Union (@EUCouncil), has the capacity to credibly manage federal elections. Yet #INEC has demonstrated serious weaknesses in safeguarding free, fair, and credible elections when confronted with deliberate efforts by #Nigerian political actors to manipulate and undermine the voting process. This was evident during the 2023 Nigerian elections, and current developments suggest the same pattern may be emerging again.
The U.S. House and Senate are currently on Easter recess, but we are actively echoing the State Department’s assessment to key members of Congress and intend to brief congressional leadership and senior members of the U.S. National Security Council early next week. Unlike the #Biden Administration, which took no meaningful action in 2023, it is not in President Donald Trump (@realDonaldTrump)’s nature to remain passive in the face of an election being openly undermined.
We will recommend to the Office of the President and Congress that Global Magnitsky sanctions (#GloMag) be imposed on any Nigerian politician or official of the @inecnigeria who engages in efforts to rig Nigeria's ongoing electoral process. These measures should include freezing all foreign assets, restricting access to the global financial system, and imposing travel bans on individuals and their immediate family members.

If famed Nigerian human rights lawyer Femi Falana accuses Nigeria's ruling APC Party of manipulating the judiciary to try and bring about a one-party state by destroying the opposition, then the world should pay attention. Elections coming in months.

'Ex-Obidient movement member' alleges Peter Obi admitted losing 2023 election
Lawrence Okoro, an X user who claims to be a former member of the Obidient Movement, has alleged that Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, once admitted he lost the election.
The presidential election, held on February 25, 2023, was contested by Obi, alongside other candidates, including President Bola Tinubu, who was then the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Igbo people prefer to trade in cement than to manufacture cement it, simple as.
Low key, I still believe that their are businesses that seem to be way above the mental capacity of an average Igbo big man.
The average Igbo trader that may have some money does not have the mental capacity, while the ones that have the mental strength don't have the money and do not trust themselves.
The margin of cement business is high and it is something I am interested in. Even if it is to work with "marginal field" version of limestone deposit.
ONYEKA@onyeka_chii
I still can't understand why no one is interested in building Cement plant in the SE. SE is one of the biggest consumer of Cement in Nigeria. What could be the problem??

Let Easter give us hope of a better Nigeria ahead.
As we commemorate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, even amid difficult times, we encourage you to remain steadfast in hope. Indeed, “Good Friday must come before Easter Sunday,” and our present challenges must not define our future.
We understand the heavy burden many families are carrying as a result of economic hardship. As we share in your struggles, we urge you not to lose heart. These difficult moments are temporary trials—our collective “cross”—that can lead to renewal if we remain resilient and committed to the common good.
Our nation continues to face serious challenges, especially in governance and the impact it has on the daily lives of citizens. Yet, Easter reminds us that after sacrifice comes renewal, and after darkness comes light. A better Nigeria is possible when we, together, choose accountability, compassion, and responsible leadership.
We remain hopeful that, through God’s grace and the determination of our people, the journey ahead will lead to a brighter future. Though the road may be rough, we believe in a Nigeria that works for everyone.
May this Easter renew our faith, strengthen our resolve, and inspire us to work together for a just and prosperous nation.
Happy Easter. -PO

This Chief Alex Ibru
In 1996, Abacha sent Al Mustapha and Sergeant Rogers to kill him.
Sergeant Rogers shot him in the eye on top of the Falomo Bridge in Lagos.
It happened on Friday, February 2, 1996, while on his way from the Federal Palace Hotel where he went for a board meeting, he was attacked.
Sergeant Rogers walked up to Alex Ibru’s side of the Car, shot at him and Alex turned sideways. The bullet hit him in his left eye and his head shifted, that was how he lost his left eye. Luckily, the right eye was saved because of that shift.
Alex was rushed to St. Nicholas Hospital. “Lo and behold, Rogers found his way to St. Nicholas hospital with his team but before then, we had already placed police people to provide security on all the stairs leading to Alex’s wardroom. They were not able to do anything,"
He was later rushed abroad in an air ambulance. He survived but lost an eye and two fingers.
Why? Because Femi Falana facilitated the release of Turner Ogboru (the brother of the financier of the 1990 Gideon Okar coup) from prison and the AG & Alex Ibru as minister in charge of Prisons approved it.
16 years later He died.
This is the Abacha Peter Obi is saying is democratic? Alright. 👍🏽
