I'm a NO! $200 billion could fund five years of enhanced ACA subsidies that Republicans just let expire or nearly a million of new affordable housing units across the country. I will not vote for a bill that supports an illegal war and drives up costs for my constituents.

I voted NO on Republicans’ so-called balanced budget amendment. It rigs the system against working families and hamstrings Congress from undoing the GOP’s tax cuts. They control the House, Senate, and White House—they don’t need an amendment, just the will. This isn’t fiscal responsibility—it’s hypocrisy. I’ll keep fighting to lower costs for working families.

Reality check: Our nation’s health care system is under assault, and for the approximately 1.2 million Americans living with HIV, access to care can be a matter of life and death. Today, seven “Housewives” came to Capitol Hill to raise awareness about HIV prevention and treatment. They are using their platform to emphasize that—no matter your ZIP code—everyone deserves access to quality, affordable, timely, and compassionate care, including preventive medicines like PrEP and PEP, which significantly reduce the risk of HIV transmission. Their message raises a question for all of us: how are we using our own platforms—big or small—to speak up, show up, and support those whose lives depend on access to care? We all have a role to play. Honored to stand with them and @SenatorBaldwin and @RepWilson. Thanks Tristan Schukraft of @heymistr_, @SCClemons and @HHSPolicy for hosting this important event!

I’m beyond horrified to learn of another antisemitic attack—this time at one of our nation’s largest Reform synagogues. My thoughts are with the Temple Israel congregation and the entire Jewish community. So thankful that no one was hurt in this attack. Antisemitism has no place in America. Everyone deserves to worship safely and without fear.

Today I met with the team at the Women’s Health Center of Maryland to hear firsthand about the care they provide and the challenges patients face across Appalachia. In rural communities like Mountain Maryland, access to reproductive health care often means long distances and real barriers. Clinics like this are essential, and I’m grateful to the dedicated staff whose passion makes this care possible. Supporting resources like this ensures rural families can get the care they need close to home.

Good news: Our Team Maryland efforts to block ICE from opening a detention warehouse in Washington County have resulted in a court-ordered injunction to halt construction while the case continues in court.

This progress would not have been possible without the thousands of constituents who contacted my office to share their concerns.

I will continue fighting to ensure that inhumane detention centers like this are never opened in Maryland — or elsewhere.

My Statement on the Court’s Order to Temporarily Halt Construction of an Unlawful ICE Detention Facility in Washington County:  “Today a federal court handed Maryland a critical victory, stopping construction that threatened our waterways, endangered species, and communities before irreversible harm could be done. Though temporary, this ruling stops the construction of this massive immigration detention center while our lawsuit continues to play out in court.  We will not let DHS and ICE rush through the proper legal process in their haste to ramp up deportations. We will keep fighting to make sure the law is followed and Marylanders are protected.”
