@tjmcaulay @GlobeBobRyan What Knight did was a threat. No threat here. Not enough to penalize or eject in any sport.

Nothing? Are you sure? One of the best officials in the country fails to advance after allowing a coach to do what a Hurley did? As an aside, I knew John Adams very well and this would have been a death sentence when he was Coordinator of Men’s Basketball Officiating. I doubt very much has changed. I’m guessing you didn’t think Knight should have been ejected in 1987, either.

The official who failed to penalize Hurley’s abhorrent conduct is conspicuously missing. Speaks volumes. Reminds me of the situation in 1987 when three of the best failed to penalize Bobby Knight when he slammed the table during a Regional Final game. Everyone in the basketball community knew those three were done.

@Dillo11111 @tzanni29 @GeneSteratore @NCAA Disrespectfully…..threat…….harm. None of these happened here. Not enough contact to call a foul or eject anyone in any sport. There was no actual head butt by either of them.

@tzanni29 @GeneSteratore @NCAA rule 10.2.h says an unsporting Class A technical should be assessed to a coach or player who disrespectfully contacts an official or makes a threat of physical intimidation or harm to include pushing, shoving, spitting, or attempting to make physical contact with an official

Having reffed both sports at a very high level, I can tell you that the atmosphere in basketball and dealing with coaches is very different. It’s all game long, a constant back and forth, and there is a mutual understanding between basketball refs and coaches. It’s part of what makes reffing it so much fun. I’m happy that Roger Ayers (who always referees games at a Final Four level) handled the end of the game the way that he did. This was not a confrontational situation. Uconn hit a buzzer beater a few seconds before the viral moment between Ayers and Hurley. Ayers is telling Hurley that the game isn’t over yet (there was a clock adjustment from 0.02 to 0.04 - which is notable for catch and shoot). Hurley isn’t physically contacting him, he’s just between Ayers and the scorer’s table. I’ve been in some wild environments/end of game scenarios both in basketball and football. They feel surreal and you are in a state of shock to an extent. This is how great officials handle these situations, so kudos to Roger Ayers and congrats to UConn.

@kylecorwintakes @cdmauger Every home stand should be a minimum of 6 to 9 games, and that includes the first 6 to 9 games of the season. It would be very impractical to play only 3 at home and then go on the road.

It's insane to me that some MLB teams have to wait over a week to have their "Opening Day." Every team should have their home opener in either the first or second series of the season. "tRavEL LoGiSTicS" We have computers for that. We don't have that husband and wife doing all the team schedules by hand anymore.

@YahooSports All these idiots saying he owned it. He literally blames his colleagues and says none of them caught it either 🤣 Accountability would be him saying its on me, its my job, my mistake. But no, he apportioned blame to his colleagues.

Home plate umpire Mark Wegner acknowledged Tuesday he lost track of the count in an at-bat that should've resulted in a strikeout for the Red Sox. "It was actually strike three," Wegner told a pool reporter after the Red Sox lost, 9-2, to the Reds. "Had anybody caught it, we can always go and call replay and check the count. I’ve never done that before. I’m not happy about it. Just made a mistake.”

Wow!!! Lots to digest here…. We gotta slide and we gotta be in better position to make the tag. Pitcher remained in the game, runner ejected.

@NFL_DovKleiman @business But if the NFL wants to have every team play an international game, it makes more sense to leave it at 17 games…….8 home, 8 away, & 1 international game.

Just In: NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says the “logical step” for the league is to add an 18th game. “We would keep within that 20-game framework. We went to 16 and four, and now 17 and three. So 18 and two is a logical step.” (via @business)

@Kirsten_Tanis1 They probably were not confident they could make it permanent just yet. Start with this, next year it will come back with regular refs.

@MLBSplinter @ScoringChanges @Yankees @Mariners If the runner took off for 2nd base immediately with the throw to 1st, (meaning he did not try to get back to 1st) he would get the stolen base & only an error if he makes it to 3rd. If he tried to get back to 1st, then it should be a 2 base error.

@ScoringChanges @Yankees @Mariners Please find the Tigers at Dbacks play in the bottom of the 7th with Jordan Lawlar on 1st, the pickoff attempt going very wide and him moving up 2 bases and somehow being credited with a stolen base and 1 base error. No one in our section could make sense of it.

So my phone blew up on this play from tonight’s @Yankees vs. @Mariners game. I think the scorer gave this an error because the SS prevents the left fielder from catching this, as I think he had it. But you cannot give an error for that reason. You can give an error to the shortstop if he collided with the left fielder causing him to drop the ball, but cutting a ball off from another fielder isn’t an error. So, this is only an error if the scorer thinks this was ordinary effort, and I’d have scored this a base hit because this is a very difficult play for a shortstop to make. I certainly expect Jazz to appeal this. #repbx #TridentsUp

@ScoringChanges @Yankees @Mariners The only fielder that might of had a normal effort play was the LF, and he yielded to the SS. This is a hit, a double.

@beisbolrulez @joefrl @walkoffstudios @tangotiger While this sounds nice it opens the gates for lots of arguing and ejections because it involves too much discretion essentially saying umpires can do whatever they want and still be within the rules even if it contradicts other rules.

@tangotiger @walkoffstudios Thanks, must be a relatively new tweak. I saw a play where a runner at 2nd was ruled safe, then a force out at the plate. After review they changed it to out at 2nd and safe at the plate, as the catcher never tagged the runner. That runner would not have advanced if not forced.
