What the AI Act does is it protects the European market from foreign AI companies while ensuring that European AI development remains permanently behind. This is very concerning because we believe AI is one of the most transformative economic revolutions since the Industrial Revolution, and the AI Act’s stifling effect on AI development in Europe means that Europe is on the precipice of missing this revolution, which could really have significant reverberations at a macroeconomic level on the way that Europe ranks among the world’s nations internationally. -@UnderSecE

The EU is a major world economy and a major trading partner with the US. They are our customers and we are theirs. The best option, when available, is cordial relationships and expanding commercial ties. That was the vision of the founders. That's what gets us a golden age of American and western civilizational preeminence.

The relationship between the United States and Europe continues to move in a positive direction. We just got the tariff cuts in the U.S.-EU Joint Statement approved by the European Parliament. Critical minerals and Pax Silica initiatives are underway, which will protect the AI supply chains of the United States and our allies. @rte

The Trump Administration has prioritized the reduction of deficits and the rebalance of our trade relationships. Appreciated hearing from the @DistilledSpirit and @spiritsEUROPE leadership teams on their efforts to achieve balance for the spirits industries in the U.S. and EU and their continued advocacy for EU implementation of the Turnberry agreement without amendments!

The overarching risk is that the West loses the AI race. China won't slow down for regulations - they're moving full steam ahead, and we must, too. Whoever develops Artificial Superintelligence first will control the economy, the military, and culture. @rte

Good discussion with Irish Foreign Minister @HMcEntee and @USAmbIreland Ed Walsh on Ireland’s upcoming Council of the EU Presidency. Ireland’s term will be an important opportunity to promote competitiveness, strengthen Europe’s resilience, and deepen cooperation with the United States on our shared economic and strategic priorities. The EU must deregulate to spur economic growth—the sooner, the better.

America wants the European Union, and Europe in general, to be prosperous. A prosperous Europe is a better trade partner; a prosperous Europe is better able to defend itself. The EU’s tremendous amount of regulation has caused it to miss the digital economic revolution and lag in GDP growth compared to the United States in particular. Honored to join my good friend @USAmbIreland Walsh, and to participate in a timely discussion on transatlantic relations during Ireland’s upcoming Council of the EU Presidency with former Tánaiste @FitzgeraldFrncs, and @danobrien20. We talked about the close — and important — relationship between the US and Ireland; cutting red tape; boosting competitiveness; and ensuring EU rules support innovation, growth, and a stronger U.S.-EU partnership on digital, energy, and security. With its strong business base, Ireland is the ideal country to hold the Council presidency at this time.

Great meeting with @IrelandInEU PermRep O’Donoghue ahead of my visit to Ireland. We discussed priorities for Ireland’s Council presidency and the opportunity to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness, cut burdensome regulations, and reduce economic dependence on China. Looking forward to continuing the conversation in Dublin.

A strong Europe means a more stable and prosperous world. We call on our EU partners to increase defense spending and roll back protectionist barriers that weaken transatlantic defense cooperation.

Today I met with the impressive board members of the American Jewish Committee @AJCGlobal. We discussed how best to advance our shared commitment to combating antisemitism in Europe as well as improving our transatlantic relationship. Antisemitism is a serious and growing problem. The recent attacks in Liège, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and London were horrific and require urgent action. This remains a priority for the Trump Administration.

Europe's overregulation stifles innovation and growth. These rules make it more difficult for American companies to bring experience, innovation, and financing to European markets. When European leaders talk about 'competitiveness,' we need to ask: Are they trying to make Europe more competitive, or simply make other free market economies less competitive? Excellent discussion today with Dorothee Blessing of @jpmorgan on their $1.5 trillion Security & Resiliency Initiative—now expanding to Europe. We explored how private investment can finance energy needs to bolster growth, strengthen supply chains, advance strategic technologies, and build defense manufacturing capacity across the Atlantic. This is exactly the kind of private capital mobilization we need to see in Europe. To fulfill its potential, Europe must break down barriers to transatlantic investment and maximize economic security and opportunities for American and European workers. #EconomicSecurity

The U.S. is committed to supply Europe with large quantities of energy. If Europe is serious about reindustrialization and competing in the AI economy, it will need massive amounts of reliable energy, and that means oil, LNG, and moving forward with new nuclear power plants.
