@theproof "plant-based diet" as a topic includes all plant-based products, which skews it. No one's creating faux-plant products called "animal based".

@KamOnCam_ @KSTP Are you serious? You're going to run cover for jack-booted thugs? They murdered the guy. We can clearly see that in numerous videos.

This is the spot on Nicollet Ave. where a federal officer shot and killed a 37‑year‑old male U.S. citizen and Minneapolis resident. Two bullet holes are visible in the glass windows. DHS says the man “violently resisted.” Witnesses say he was attacked by multiple agents. @KSTP

@followthemotive @donlayman Lmao exactly right. "Demonize" has done jackshit to change eating habits. Try to tell someone eating a burger or pizza slice that they're making a poor dietary choice. You'll look like a fool at the dinner table.

@donlayman Can we stop using the word demonize when we talk about red meat and dairy, as if it has any significant impact on foods people actually eat? Hyperbole unbecoming for scientists. The two most popular foods in the US are cheeseburgers and pizza, for Christ’s sake.

I’ve listened to a lot of critiques about the DGA. The biggest controversy seems to focus on saturated fat (SFA) … as expected. Let me share a different perspective. For 50 years, saturated fat and cholesterol have been used to demonize animal-derived foods even though both are essential in the human body. From 1975 until 2010 there was a 35% decrease in consumption of eggs, dairy and beef and a decrease in SFA from 15% to 11%. Benefits? None, but it did result in massive increase in processed foods and epidemics of obesity and diabetes.

@sguyenet @CaseyMeansMD @calleymeans Wild that 'The China Study' gets hammered for B12 risks, but a book demonizing heart-healthy plant fats (based on mechanistic speculation) gets a 79%. The bias against WFPB vs "Metabolic" marketing is showing.

Red Pen Reviews just published our review of Good Energy, by @CaseyMeansMD and @calleymeans. This is a particularly important review, because both authors are influential in US public health policy, and Dr. Casey Means is the current nominee for US Surgeon General.

1/ 🧵 HUGE REVIEW: "Good Energy" by @CaseyMeansMD & Calley Means is a massive bestseller. With the author poised to influence US public health policy, the question matters: Is the science actually accurate? We did a review. Here is what we found. 👇 redpenreviews.org/book-review/go…

6/ 🍬 The "Unholy Trinity": The book declares war on added sugar, refined grains, and seed oils. Our take? • Sugar: We agree (Score: 4/4). • Seed oils: The evidence suggests they are fine in moderation and better than saturated fats, making this claim less supported.

@NathanLeamerDC @gigibsohn @protctdemocracy @TechFreedom @FCC Damn, it's almost like facts don't mean anything to you. @BrendanCarrFCC @protctdemocracy @TechFreedom @FCC Ooooh, Twitter fight! The core allegation in that petition was that a licensee who was found by *two separate courts* to have lied to the public about the 2020 election *lacked the character* to hold a broadcast license. Why didn’t you revive that one along with the others?

@jonfavs Well, your post here helps about as much as that does. Perhaps, instead of pointing out how your own side is better and saying we don’t have to be this way you…act a different way. Be the change and all that.

This is an interesting contribution to the LMHR / Keto-CTA study debate, and very cool of @Marijn3D to put the time into making it. Post below is part of a longer thread also worth reading. Plaque takes awhile to build up even in the presence of multiple risk factors, and it seems plausible that otherwise metabolically healthy LMHR folks could have longer or lower-sloped runways before the effects of chronically high LDL/ApoB show up (assuming those remain risk factors in this population, which I think is a reasonable starting position). So the study’s findings of relatively low CAC levels in some long-term keto dieters with high LDL/ApoB could mean those people are just entering the on-ramp and will eventually be on the plaque trajectory @Marijn3D projects here. The only way to tell would be with a longer follow-up. LDL and ApoB also seem to have a threshold effect, in which cardiovascular risk associates more strongly with incremental increases at lower levels, then plateaus or increases at a slower rate after a certain point. So I also wonder if the lack of association between LDL/ApoB and plaque in this study is due to everyone already being above that threshold.
Marijn Raeven@Marijn3D

Here's an animation to explain my thinking. It also shows how well the hypothesis fits the data. I tried to avoid scientific language to keep it as accessible as possible.

@bgbuss @leadlagreport @biancoresearch Agreed. It's kind of a stupid premise. We could have a balanced budget and expanded Medicare if we wanted it. Our current healthcare systems are a monster of our own creation and have little to do with military spending.

@DanielOertle @leadlagreport @biancoresearch This seems to operate under the premise that this $23T spent wasn't largely in the US's interests. This is a significant economic and RD boost to the US. Nevermind the benefits we reap from increased global security.
