@CanadaTaxGuy If they didn't tax you wouldn't have a job so of course it makes sense to you that everything possible is taxed.

Canadian Tax Guy (Mohammed Al-khooly)
I’m a CPA and tax expert. Canada has a lot of silly taxes and dumb tax rules. But exit taxes actually make sense. And it’s not some sort of ‘theft’. In fact, many countries (including the US) have them. 🧵
Gad Saad@GadSaad

Following a very difficult meeting with my accountant, I just found out how much it is going to cost me in terms of an "exit tax" to leave Quebec and Canada. No human being in a free society should have their hard-earned money stolen in this manner. I'm genuinely numb. I'm speechless.

I don't think people realize how significant this is: @ModalMotors has introduced a drone motor that requires no rare-earth magnets. Supply chain concerns aside, this is a massive step forward in reduction of cost per unit. Rare earth magnets run ~$80-200/kg (depending on finish) versus what these guys are using (ferrite) which is ~$5-10/kg If these guys really can produce the same torque with this design, and they connect with a few large onshore drone manufacturers this is going to catch like absolute wildfire, mark my words. If you're in drone manufacturing/hobby drones give this a shot I'd love to see how they perform.

Just ran into Modal Motors. Non-rare earth electric motors for drones and robotics. Similar costs to Chinese motors, all U.S.-sourced. Incredible.

I have running FOC! This will put to rest many questions about low rpm control and high frequency injection. Ive had an idea for 10 years that nobody would do for me...

Looks like all the stress is being put into the sheer line that snapped because there are no supports for the part sticking out. I see this like a shelf, and you would want a 45 degree support integrated from the bottom tab into the part that holds the drill to push that stress back into the wall, and not up through the print.

Another 3D-printed failure (after a few years). Heard a bump in the night and couldn't figure it out until I did a bit of work in the garage this morning:

After 25 years in robotics and automation, we decided to build the tool we always wished existed. Still early, but we’re getting closer. That's all I'll say about it for now.

You can just do things that you have no business doing

@benmagelsen it’s honestly hard to even wrap your head around! wrapping up the first phase of a rover build that i had no business being able to build but here we are 🤷‍♂️

@xsphi The physical reaction time of moving your left foot from floor to brake is the same as moving from gas to break. There is no functional advantage unless you are riding the brake... All the time.

why aren't new drivers taught to use their left foot for the break when driving an automatic? seems likely prevent most of the (admittedly mostly minor) ~16k peddle error crashes per year in the US, and probably a lot of serious crashes as well due to improved break time.

@Dunetsk Until they reveal power factor or quote the weight WITH controller im not holding my breath. We should expect pf to fall from 0.85 to 0.5 range which is 1.7x larger controller. Motor gains, but hefty controller penalty.

@DobKevin @Robotbeat You were able to do it though. Its not hard to eradicate with consistency. Weve got wintercreeper and honeysuckle bush here. Both are prolific seeders, and the seeds stay viable for decades. Wintercreeper will flatten, mowing doesnt kill it.

@Robotbeat A someone who eradicated bamboo from 4 acres of our land in Hawaii, I agree with the poster. You don’t want this stuff anywhere near infrastructure.

@Robotbeat Bamboo is really easy to control as well. Just cut flush and mow consistently for 3 years. Like many aggressives, it cant handle mowing.
