@BDSixsmith That's not really executive function. He is lazy, you procrastinate, I have low executive function, more like.

@mattyglesias Except that we are all now worse off. Things didn't go back to zero. The tactic and strategy failed.

The media still doesn’t get it but the master dealmaker just showed us a textbook “escalate to de-escalate” tactic where first you do something that makes everyone worse off, then you threaten something insane and monstrous, and finally you call it off having achieved nothing.

@myhandle That's crazy, wtf. I understand people in the west not knowing it, but Chinese people? I'm wondering if it's maybe just later in the curriculum. We of course repeated the Nazis 6 times throughout school, but I think we only had the 1871 unification in our highschool equivalent.

@1of7e9 I brought up the Taiping rebellion to a friend who left China at 14 and she had never heard of it. it's not part of the school curriculum in China. wild stuff

NYT story really plays up Netanyahu', but while Israel has wanted this for a long time it just seems obvious that the key difference-maker for Trump was the success he had in Venezuela which made him believe decapitation could be highly successful even without regime change.

@myhandle 😂 I thought that Mark Deakins always sounded very generous to everyone described, even when the text was occasionally pretty unflattering. I listened to A Line in the Sand at the same time, and Peter Noble verbally cut everyone apart. Great book btw, opposite vibe though.

@Aella_Girl @DrDebraSoh Because the way addiction, and novelty in general, works is that we crave more and more extreme stuff. Nobody really starts off, wanting to be choked. Or to do it.

@basedaltaccount @Scholars_Stage This already happened in the early Guadalcanal campaign, where the Americans were not ahead of the Japanese yet. At least as it comes across in the book it's not materially motivated, the Japanese simply don't think to try to retrieve lost fighter pilots.

@FUnredacted @Aella_Girl This is a pretty weird argument to make about choking, something associated with domestic abuse that kills you if you do it enough.

@Aella_Girl @RattusFlattus @timurkuran I mean I saw a discussion among men about how overrated anal is just days ago on here - not exactly uncommon for people to go along with fashions. Unlike Kuran I wouldn't go so far as to think the fashion is entirely or even mostly made up of herd-following though.

In her new book Sextinction, Debra Soh describes a form of sexual preference falsification common among Gen-Z men and women: choking during intercourse. Half of all US college women have experienced it. Women pretend they like being choked, to please men. Men choke to avoid disappointing their female partners. Yet, few men or women actually enjoy this dangerous practice, which may cause permanent damage, especially when drugs and alcohol are involved. This choking norm has spread through pornography and perverted social media influencers. It makes men and women jointly degrade their experience under false understandings of what their partner wants. Each side falsifies its sexual preferences because the other side is itself engaged in sexual preference falsification. Men’s preference falsification feeds on women’s preference falsification, and vice versa.

@DGSergent @JeremiahDJohns We’ve gone to a long tail model. More people can make music and find audiences but the individual audience for a given musician, with a very small number of exceptions, is much smaller. And it’s easy to discover good music from the past.

I've written about this before, but it's remarkable how much older music is strangling new music. And the same is true in books, movies, video games. Older media is taking up a bigger and bigger share of the market every year.

@Tyrvana @nuance_enjoyer To convince people of there facts, it would be helpful to post the actual graphs from those apps. If you're resorting to homemade, people have to assume you don't have the goods.

@nuance_enjoyer It's literally how tinder, badoo, hinge ect works. That's literally how the graphs fucking look and you don't get to sit here and call it cope or undermine reality because you disagree. It's a fact 5-10% men get all the women on these apps.

If the 'black pill' is true, why do its adherents resort to poorly photoshopped graphs to force the result they want? This is why it's a misnomer. It's not a 'brutally honest view of reality'; it's a desperate, pathetic cope.

@cravedcuddle Being a virgin was rare back then because most people would date within their looks level and live happily ever after. However nowadays, women are ALL sleeping with top-tier men while the majority of men get nothing, causing male virginity to rise to what it is today..

This should be the biggest story in the country right now. Barksdale is the HQ for our B52 nuclear bombers, it's where Bush sheltered on 9/11, and the drones are reported as "far more sophisticated than anything seen in Ukraine ... and well beyond Iranian capabilities."
