These remarks are outrageous and completely unacceptable.  I'm a Hoosier and a Muslim. There are tens of thousands of Hoosier Muslims in our state. First responders. Teachers. Doctors. Small business owners. Veterans. We deserve the same dignity and respect as anyone else.

We wish all Hoosiers observing Eid this week a joyous celebration. This holiday reminds us all of the sacrifices we make to be closer to God in our faith. When Hoosiers of all faiths come together in solidarity, there is no force working people cannot overcome.

Just a little bit ago, @LGMicahBeckwith was on WOWO with Kayla Blakeslee. Beckwith Islam is “not a religion” but “a political and military movement” and “a cult.” He claimed Muslims are using a strategy to “immigrate, populate, and dominate." Beckwith referenced Dearborn, Michigan and Minnesota, and warned that Muslims are “not here to assimilate into the American way of life” but are “here to take over.” He also said he supports legislation banning Sharia law in Indiana, claimed mosques are rapidly growing across the state, and said he would continue publicly opposing Islam because he believes it is incompatible with constitutional law and American society. This is what made me laugh and I hope there are pics if it happens. At the end of the interview, Beckwith said he may wear a Crusader outfit if he visits a mosque again.

@ctjensen I’m fine with no property tax for seniors who meet certain criteria (ex. Widowed, property assess frozen at age 65, no tax if said value less than $200K) and replace that lost tax income to the state with some other consumption based tax (a choice rather than as a condition)

I appreciate the Governor talking about the affordability issue that many, many Hoosiers are facing right now. However, affordability issues are being felt across all income and age brackets. This change will shift the tax burden required to provide services in our city and state to young families. If workforce attraction is one of our state’s biggest issues, this policy will work in stark contrast to that effort. Our party and leaders need to get serious about policy and stop governing to misleading talking points to gain political headlines. Let’s get serious, come the table with REAL solutions for ALL. That’s how we win, both at home and the ballot box.
