@BrianE6B The aircraft is most certainly an IRIAF bird, but never knew that the EW pods on the older RC-130H came in the shape of fuel pods, Moroccan RC-130H for example carried a SLAR pod near it's main landing gear well. Interesting !

The imagery clearly shows two pods under each wing, so which C-130 variant exactly carries that configuration? This is an RC-130H, which operates with one fuel pod and one EW pod under each wing. You might be a prudent hermit but not a prudent observer 😊

Did we in India remain confined to the СПП and never got the AOT or AKVS? Also, why did we have such a poor opinion of the K-13 and such an inflated one of the R60? Just armchair eyeballing would lead one to be sceptical of the ‘toothpick’. @AnchitGupta9 ?
BaA43A3aHY@BaA43A3aHY

Very likely, the AKVS made R-73 integration on the MiG-23MLD a much easier task, only requiring the P-72-1D (R-73 lauch rail) be mounted on a downward firing angle.

@Anitya127 @InsightGL AFS Phalodi is roughly 20 km away from the Phalodi town, different from Phalodi airstrip, and Naliya is home to No.18 Sqn with LCA "Mk1".

@prody24445539 Empirical record of K-13 in 1971 war is poor . 1 confirmed kill of 25 fired. ..

In 1971 I think we had the K 13 and the few used did quite well in the Western Front. Certainly much better than the Sidewinder in Vietnam. The K 13 alleged performance may be viewed in the same context of the badmouthing of Nigerian ( sic) HT 2 s by Western Instructors.
Anchit Gupta@AnchitGupta9

@JA_Maolankar Sir, perhaps those views were shaped by the period. The K-13 was a 1960s missile and initially hard to employ, with a rudimentary heat seeker, so that perception persisted. The later R-60 was a different generation, with wider-angle engagement capability.

@Akash10j @AnchitGupta9 @JA_Maolankar AFAIK we moved ahead with R-60s (including dual rail P-62-2M launchers as in pic 3, allowing 4-8 AAMs with 2 PTB-490 tanks or 1 centreline PTB-490/800 in respective cases), R.550 and then the R-73s. Pic credits: @singhshwetabh71 and respective owners.

@AnchitGupta9 @JA_Maolankar Did we ever employ the upgraded Atolls, the R-13m versions? Or did we stick to the earlier versions that were being mass produced at BDL? I remember talks of attempted employment of the Alkali (AA-1/ K-5) after the 1971 war as well.

Ever since Air Marshal RD Mathur shared his personal notes from the Bhuj earthquake, I have been keen to write this story. It is not just about 15 Squadron. It is about what IAF personnel at Bhuj did in the first hours after 26 Jan 2001, when the station and the city around them had collapsed, families were trapped, and help had not yet arrived in strength. Officers and airmen crawled into unstable rubble, cut through steel with hacksaw blades, rescued survivors, recovered the dead, restored operations, and then went back to flying. A little-known story of courage, duty and the Flying Lances.

@lonelyashell04 It doesn't matter whether someone is Kashmiri, Awadhi, Bengali, Hindu, Muslim etc. Rather an Indian soldier who served well and has now retired with honour. I have attached the link to his latest podcast too.😇
