Something about Ken Paxton and GOP primary runoffs. Each time he’s been in a runoff, he’s dominated. 2014- wins runoff by 27 2022- wins runoff by 36 2026- wins runoff by 27. If you ever try to primary this guy & force a runoff, you’re basically guaranteed to lose

@acalce1000 @StatisticUrban It’s still possible given that Dems have made massive progress in those areas since Beto 2018. Look at Beto in 22. He matched Biden 20’ in those same suburbs in many places. 2024 saw reversion because of minority shifts. But trends are trends until they aren’t (like 24 showed)

@StatisticUrban Flipping either collin or denton alone would be a massive achievement and a sign of good things to come. Looking back at Beto's margins by county though even that is a huge lift. He won Dallas by 33 and Harris by 17-highly doubt Talarico gets those margins

I think TX is still more likely than not to elect Paxton. It's still a very red state. But Paxton as the GOP nominee, in a midterm with Trump at -30 approval, an unpopular war, soaring gas prices and three-year-high inflation, is the one scenario where Dems have a real shot.

@LoewyLawFirm Problem for you is Adam, that most Dems are increasingly become anti Israel. Being pro Israel is a liability in a dem primary nowadays. He’s trying to walk the fine line between not alienating his progressive base while also having some appeal to pro Israel folks. Won’t work imo

He needs to moderate on abortion AND Israel. Texas is a very Pro Israel state, as we saw once again last night. Talarico can’t run the primary anti Israel stuff if he wants to win. #txlege
Zaid Jilani@ZaidJilani

Lot of libs were disagreeing with me when I said Talarico is crafting an abortion stance that is too far left. You should read the polls of Texans. Sweet spot would be to say late term abortion outlawed but near term liberalized. houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/news/…

@Michellebbz If you’re a republican, you must be ecstatic about Paxtons chances to win in November after seeing that margin. Last time Paxton won by that much in a runoff, he went on to win the general by close to 10 (against Rochelle Garza) in 2022

CBS News@CBSNews

Texas state Rep. and Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico responded to GOP attacks over his past remark that God is “non-binary,” telling @edokeefe that some of his previous comments “missed the mark.” “There are some statements that I’ve made that I certainly regret,” Talarico said, adding that Ken Paxton, whom he will face in November, “is intentionally clipping my cringey comments to distract from his career of corruption.”

Imagine telling someone 3 years ago that Ken Paxton would be the GOP Senate nominee and Roseanne would be signing at his party. This all actually happened.
FOX26Houston@FOX26Houston

A jubilant Roseanne Barr lip-synced to Gloria, the 1982 hit song from Laura Branigan, after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton defeated four-term Sen. John Cornyn to secure the Republican Senate nomination on Tuesday, May 26, Video of the moment was captured by Michelle Evans, chairwoman of the Williamson County Republican Party in Texas, while Paxton and numerous supporters celebrated his win in Plano. “If you’ve never seen @therealroseanne celebrating @KenPaxtonTX’s historic win by lip synching to ‘Gloria,’ you’ve never lived,” Evans wrote in an X post. Paxton, who received a late endorsement from President Donald Trump, will face Democrat James Talarico in the general election in November.

@roon0292 @ChicagosLoneCon Ken Paxton has had baggage both times he ran in 2018 and 2022. He won a pretty tight race in 2018 by over 3 pts and in 2022 he won by close to 10 pts. Granted this was with lower turnout but still. I don’t expect 2026 to reach 2018 levels of turnout as well

@roon0292 @ChicagosLoneCon Texas is still fundamentally a GOP leaning state. They’re not going to vote for Abbott by 10+ pts and elect Talarico on the same ballot. It’ll be close by TX standards, but still a Paxton +4-6 W

@Adam125890 @bluestein No. Ethically challenged and head far up Trump’s posterior oriface is a bridge too far! Dooley, while I fear for his effectiveness due to his lack of experience in legislating, see Tuberville, I am a Kemp fan and semi trust his evaluation so Dooley is my choice!

ALL IN: Senate Majority Leader Thune endorses Ken Paxton for Texas Senate, pivoting from Cornyn backing to rally the GOP behind Trump's pick for November. The target now shifts to Democrat James Talarico, who Thune says must not reach the upper chamber. Texas hasn't sent a Democrat to the Senate since 1988 — and Republican leaders plan to keep it that way. 'Losing is not an option when it comes to the state of Texas, and what it means for our majority in the Senate.'

On @hughhewitt's show this afternoon, Senate Majority Leader John Thune says Sen. Cornyn has “done a great job for Texas and for our country” but the voters spoke last night and Republicans must now “pivot and go all in” to back the GOP nominee, Texas AG Ken Paxton. Thune says he's spoken with Paxton over phone since he won, and that "losing is not an option when it comes to the state of Texas and what it means for our majority in the Senate."
