A pleasure to see an IAF officer explain very clearly and crisply what the IACCS (integrated air command and control system) is all about. An IAF-BEL homegrown system, it walked the talk on Atmanirbharta well before it became fashionable. It integrates multiple sensors from disparate origins (French, Russian, Indian, Israeli) and different vintage (from 80s to 20s) into one cohesive picture. The system correlates, corroborates and collaborates. It may surprise many to know that the IAF actively shares data through appropriate safeguards and firewalls with AAI's civil radar network. The result? A Resolved Air Situation Picture (RASP) that covers the entire expanse of India including her island territories. So why did he say from 'underwater to 100 km altitude'? That's because now, this system has been integrated with not only the Indian Army's 'Akash Teer', but also the Indian Navy's tactical information network which updates the maritime picture also for long range maritime operations. Why up to a 100 km? Because that's where space begins, and the 'near space' domain (approx 25-100 km altitude) has emerged as an area of increasing activity. The system functions with numerous 'nodes' as the Wing Commander mentioned. 10 of them, covering the whole country, with one for the Andaman and Nicobar Command. These nodes have a sci-fi high tech operations rooms with huge wide screens on which the air situation is displayed in real time. There is FULL REDUNDANCY. That is to say, sitting in South India, you can see the live air picture over North East India (or anywhere else), and even control your aircraft remotely. The first 'node' came up at Jodhpur in 2009, and controlled aircraft over Pune/Mumbai area also! Since then all others have come up as well and been fully operational for a while. It was this system, that held the line and controlled all defensive operations against Pak attacks, and all offensive operations by the IAF in Op Sindoor. It has been tested, battle tested, fine tuned, improved, stood the test of time and with scope for further development as Wing Commander Dhir brought out. Next step? @IAF_MCC and @BEL_CorpCom should jointly market this expertise of networking to friendly foreign countries. This will build long term strategic relationships.
