I'm just gonna say: If Maple Leaf flags vs Alberta flags are any indication of how the separatists are doing in my little Alberta town, they may as well pack their bags and focus elsewhere, because the number of Canadian flags out-numbered Alberta's easily by a margin of 40-1.

@HILITINGHOCKEY I live in downtown Calgary and the ratio is only barely in favour of Pearson's libflag. Nothing more based than the blue flag hanging in lower mount royal.

Alberta doesn't need a new flag. Most think St. George's Cross is about the monarchy. Historically it's not. It symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. Couldn't be a better symbol for Alberta and its independence movement.

@RiseOfAlberta You can be a territorial offshoot of the British Empire (which is absolutely what Alberta is, outside the most obscene cope) and also be independent of Pearsonite nu-Canada. Trying to paint Alberta as something else entirely is FYR Macedonia level LARPing.

@RiseOfAlberta This is dumb. Alberta having British roots is in no way contradictory to being an independent state which yet maintains British symbology. Hawaii has the Union Jack in its flag, for crying out loud. As did the Republic of South Africa.

@RealSamRoberts @DastDn Forget the Ptolemies, Ramessid Pharaohs conducted archeological excavations and restorations on what were already ancient relics.

@DastDn The Pyramids and the Sphinx are so old that Ptolemaic Pharaohs employed scholars to figure out who built them and for what purpose.

Starting September 1, 2026, Alberta schools will only be permitted to display the Canadian and Alberta flags under proposed provincial legislation, prohibiting Pride flags and all other non-governmental flags from school buildings and grounds.

LEAF's are basically the last large group of people on Earth that "muh Racism" and "cLiMaTe ChAnGe!1!" actually works on still. That is honestly as much of a driving cultural divide between the West and the Laurentian Confederacy as any economic or liberty concerns.

Not that I think Carney particularly cares but if there’s one thing I know about Alberta separatists it’s that no amount of capitulation will ever be enough. The separatist movement’s rooted deeply in anti-Indigenous racism, perpetual self-victimhood and conspiracy theories.

There’s a Welsh bloke going around saying he doesn’t mind if the Welsh get eradicated, as long as the new people learn Welsh. Is there any cure for this level of stupidity?

@JulianHeliosII He isn't wrong, though perhaps accidentally. Wait until you learn the majority language of the fathers of confederation. And the mother tongue of the first two prime ministers.

@JakeLangford94 @avidseries South Africa had multiple wars (Zulu wars, Boer Wars) in which all sides were relatively recent arrivals. At least compared to the Khoi San.

@007_Hunter_ Ensign-LARPers, who live in one of the most radically progressive polities on Earth, would love to have a fraction of the support separatism enjoys in Alberta. Laurentian trads are as relevant as Egyptian Osiris-worshippers were in 400 AD. Defeated.

@MiloGaillard3 @TM9380 @sinequalis Which is why there's so much speculation as to their relation. I tend to presume that it was either a direct ancestor or close "sibling", possibly analogous to what Neanderthals were for Homo sapiens. But I'm just an amateur nerd.

@TM9380 @sinequalis Really? I thought it was better studied. I guess the lack of descriptions is why I struggle to think of what distinguishes Gorgosaurus from Albertosaurus.

While it’s fairly well known with several specimens and papers including it, Gorgosaurus is actually painfully underdescribed as a species. Especially when compared to some of its closer kin…
