Today, Uganda assumes the Chairmanship of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Forum of Heads of State and Government (2026–2028) at the 39th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa. Context; The @APRMorg is Africa’s home-grown governance accountability instrument under the AU, established in 2003. It is a voluntary peer review system through which Member States assess each other’s performance in democracy, political governance, economic management, corporate governance, and socio-economic development. At the apex of this structure sits the APR Forum, composed of participating Heads of State and Government, providing political leadership, policy direction and oversight of governance reforms across the continent. What does Means for @aprm_ug? It places Uganda at the center of driving governance dialogue, peer learning and reform advocacy across APRM member states. For Uganda, it is both a diplomatic endorsement and a governance test an opportunity to lead by example while shaping Africa’s governance trajectory. The Road Ahead? Uganda’s chairmanship comes at a time when Africa is redefining governance within the context of Agenda 2063, economic integration under the AfCFTA and rising citizen expectations. The task is clear: strengthen the credibility of the APRM, accelerate implementation of review outcomes and champion African solutions for accountable, people-centered governance. Uganda steps into this role not just as Chair, but as a steward of Africa’s collective governance progress. #UgandaLeadsAPRM #APRMForum #AUSummit39 #Agenda2063 @KagutaMuseveni @jessica_alupo @APRMorg @GNGwaku @Eloneainebyoona @EmmaXfactor @OmwaOgwang @obaldanzy

Goodman Eric, Director of Burondwa Mixed Farm in Isingiro, struggled with water access, spending up to UGX 2 million monthly to sustain his farm operations. Through the RBF programme, he acquired a solar-powered irrigation pump at a 60% subsidy, making it more affordable to invest in sustainable farming solutions. This has enabled year-round farming, improved productivity across his livestock, poultry and crops and significantly reduced operational costs. He appreciates Uganda Energy Credit Capitalisation Company’s support in helping farmers overcome water scarcity and sustain their livelihoods. Interested in accessing a solar-powered irrigation pump? “Credit ratings shape the economic destiny of our countries, determining access to capital, cost of borrowing, and ultimately our development trajectory.” As part of celebrating 23 years of the @APRMorg, we hosted a high-level public lecture in partnership with the @UPTuks, convening policymakers, academics, and thought leaders to unpack the impact of credit ratings on AU Member States. We were honoured to be joined by Hon. @AmosLugoloobi, Uganda’s APRM Focal Point, and Hon. Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi, South Africa’s @thedpsa Minister and APRM Focal Point, underscoring strong political commitment to advancing Africa’s governance and financial architecture. The dialogue reinforced the urgency of operationalising the African Credit Rating Agency (AfCRA), a critical step toward fairer, more transparent, and context-driven assessments of African economies. This milestone moment also marked the launch of our first Governance Voices newsletter, a platform dedicated to amplifying African perspectives and thought leadership on governance and development. From strengthening Africa’s voice in the global financial system to shaping future policy discourse, the work continues. #AfCRA #APRM23

I’ve been following the stories coming out of the Results-Based Financing (RBF) programme and honestly, the impact is real. When you hear someone like Namugaya Harriet talk about how something as simple as cooking used to be expensive and time-consuming and then see how that has changed, it puts things into perspective. These aren’t just “projects” on paper, they’re everyday solutions that are actually improving how people live. The fact that clean energy technologies like electric pressure cookers, solar systems and irrigation pumps are becoming more accessible and affordable is a big deal, especially for households and small businesses. Kudos to the work being done by @rbaguma608 and your team @UECCC1. If more people can access these kinds of solutions, the long-term impact on livelihoods and productivity will be massive. @Thomas_Tayebwa @AnitahAmong @GovUganda @kasujja

“Before acquiring the Electric Pressure Cooker, life was quite difficult… I used to spend a lot of money.” For Namugaya Harriet in Jinja City, cooking was once costly, time-consuming and inefficient. Today, that story has changed. Through the Results-Based Financing (RBF) programme she accessed an Electric Pressure Cooker (EPC) at a 60% o subsidized cost. “There has been a tremendous change in my household… cooking is now much faster and more cost-effective.” The EPC is not only efficient but also environmentally friendly, reducing harmful indoor emissions and improving everyday living conditions. Harriet expresses her gratitude to UECCC and its partners for making clean cooking solutions more accessible and affordable to households like hers. More Ugandans are making the switch to clean, efficient energy through the RBF programme.

According to a scale audit conducted with guidance from the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (@UNBSug), 4 out of 5 traders tested failed to meet the acceptable weighing tolerance, meaning consumers could be paying for more beans than they actually receive. From imbalanced scales to weights outside the legal 15 gram allowance, the findings raise serious questions about accuracy in everyday trade. This investigation, “Faulty Scales Cost Kampala Consumers,” highlights why verified and certified weighing instruments matter for fair trade, consumer protection, and trust in our markets. Are you really getting what you pay for?

I have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. I am 28. I currently work as a security guard in Qatar. Every morning I put on my uniform and think about the version of me that graduated thinking the world was waiting. Nobody tells you that sometimes the world is not waiting. You just have to keep showing up anyway.

Peace and Stability Still Matter More Than Ever The Summit once again touched on regional peace and security for most of the time. For many young people in the region including myself, peace is not just a diplomatic topic it directly affects education, jobs, and mobility. Regional stability isn’t just about politics, it’s about whether a young person can plan their future without uncertainty.

Big Infrastructure vs Real Everyday Challenges The Summit has for years and continues to focus on big regional projects railways, energy, trade corridors and infrastructure. All of that matters. But for many young people across East Africa, daily realities are still about: unemployment, access to finance, cost of living and opportunities to scale businesses.

I had an amazing conversation with Aušrinė Armonaitė, former Minister of Economy and Innovation of Lithuania, on the sidelines of the Inclusive FinTech Forum 2026 #IFF2026 here in Kigali, Rwanda. From her journey into politics at just 25 to leading innovation policy in Lithuania, she shared powerful reflections on youth leadership and why young people are not just the future but the present. Catch this highlight from our Africa Unplugged conversation. @OneYoungAfrica

“Youth are not just the future, youth are the present.” A powerful message from Aušrinė Armonaitė during our conversation on Africa Unplugged on the sidelines of the Inclusive FinTech Forum 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda. From her journey into politics at just 25 to serving as Lithuania’s Minister of Economy and Innovation, she shared powerful reflections on youth leadership, innovation, and why young people must be seen as active shapers of today’s economies — not just tomorrow’s leaders.
