@GovofCO You should have signed SB86 too if you cared about Colorado children being preyed upon for profit by social media companies. There is no constitutionally protected right to engage in criminal activity online. Trafficking minors, guns and drugs online is not protected speech.

This week, I was proud to sign two important bills into law to protect freedom in Colorado: SB25-129 and SB25-183. These bills align state law with the will of the voters, strengthen reproductive rights, and protect patient access to safe healthcare services in Colorado.

The law would require social media platforms distributing to Colorado residents to take the most basic kinds of steps to not deceive consumers and act how any business should. 👧🏻Protecting children from harm of private industries is not invasive, it is what your legacy should be. ✔️The law would require social media platforms distributing to Colorado residents to take the most basic kinds of steps to not deceive consumers and act how any business should. For example, things like posting clear policies of use, and actually enforcing those when violations occur; providing instructions and easy to use reporting mechanisms; taking down accounts that violate state law or serious policy violations (things like drug dealing and sexual abuse), and with a reasonable process for assessment, review, and appeal; and responding to lawfully issued subpoenas ⏰within 72 hours.  If a platform needs more time to respond, then the platform can ask the court for such additional time, rather than forcing law enforcement to spend the incredible time and cost it takes currently to try and force compliance. In many cases, the difference between getting data quickly versus in thirty or sixty days, or not at all, is a matter of life and death.  Our children deserve better.
