So I have a (mostly) useless degree in film theory and my personal concentration was National cinema. Meaning the study of how a racial/ethnic group represents themselves, their history, present and future through the artistic medium of film. You will find that every single race of people on earth represent reality differently through film. The essence of that difference is found in the people themselves and what makes them, them. The racial spirit of a people is illustrated through their use of film making and visual storytelling in such a manner that a Bollywood film and a Korean film are so different in the manner of their storytelling, character development, camera techniques etc they might as well be from different planets. My favourite example of this is how Irish cinema is known for its dark, often crude, tragic comedy which mirrors the spirit of the Irish and their history perfectly. French cinema also intertwines deep philosophical ideas with ordinary everyday life and often uses rebellious and bold storytelling/camera techniques. Very in alignment with the French spirit. These distinct artistic differences give visual representation to the distinct differences between the racial spirit of people. What’s even more important though is that the artistic medium of film is in effect a form of collective dreaming. One steps into the theatre, sits back in a comfy seat, the lights dim, the screen illuminates and we experience the film itself in a similar fashion as we would a dream. The cinema provided the enthralling and thrilling experience of a new reality where anything could be possible. Where we could be reminded of who we are and we could imagine who we might be but for the first time as a shared experience. And what are dreams if not the deep internal world which inspires the creation and building of the external material world. Most people think of movies as just entertainment but in reality it is so much more than that. It is programming, guided dreaming and identity creating on the societal scale. What a people dream and feel about themselves internally they become in a sense. This is why these race swapped roles in historical dramas are not merely superficial and are in effect evil. It takes a historical figure, their contribution to the spirit of their race and thus a national identity and transgresses upon it by corrupting the image as belonging to anyone, everyone and therefore no one. It is stolen valour. It is the highest form of cultural erasure in art, it is history rewriting in pursuit of identity destruction. Not surprisingly it is something we exclusively see in roles which rightfully belong to whites. It is the explicit propaganda arm of white replacement. It aims to make us forget who we are, induce a form of collective amnesia about our history and ultimately erase from all future memory the truth of our ancestors heroics and bravery.

Christopher Nolan says Lupita Nyong'o was his first choice to play Helen of Troy in The Odyssey (2026) because the role needed “strength and poise” as much as beauty. “And Lupita makes it look effortless.” “I was absolutely desperate for her to do the part.”

@retirementkeys Disagree with the initial post, but yeah a considerable intelligence gap makes any meaningful romance impossible. A relationship where you have to constantly filter what you say is not viable.

@ChicityQuark @SandrineK92 You are targeting, reframing it to make it feel more offensive again. She didn't organize a meeting and said "No X allowed". If white basketball players met and posted pictures celebrating white basketball players I would even like the post. Nothing uncomfortable here.

@Anothasapiens @SandrineK92 The uncomfortable truth you won’t admit, is that if this is ok with you, then you have to accept when white players have meetings that say no blacks allowed, or Asians have gatherings that say no blacks allowed. Is that the world you want to live in? Why would you promote that

How fragile your ego must be as a white person, to be offended by this dinner.
The Tennis Letter@TheTennisLetter

Naomi Osaka on why she chose to host a party for the black tennis players: “You know I'm seeing a little bit of- ‘Why can't you love everyone for all skin tones?’ and ‘what if someone had an all white party?! First of all I do love everyone for who they are no matter their race + ethnicity, (I'm literally half Japanese lol). I can only speak from my experiences in my own life though, growing up as a tennis player I didn't see many people that looked like ME and I feel like it's important to celebrate them. Secondly I feel like it's important to note that there have been all white dinners/parties. I don't know how else to tell you this, I literally seen them all the time and never had an issue with it at all. To the people who ask this question I want to ask you this question too, ‘What is it about POC getting together that unsettles you so much?’ I want to end this by saying I grew up watching my dad get discriminated against, having the cops called on him multiple times at the tennis court. There are multiple things I will apologize for in my life but celebrating being black and appreciating who we are will never be something I would consider saying sorry for. Thanks. Actually I lied, I am sorry. I'm sorry for the people who cannot comprehend in their brains that this is not about exclusion, this is a celebration about how far we have come 🖤” (via Naomi on Threads)

@ChicityQuark @SandrineK92 I answered the question, told you nothing wrong with it, it just feels wrong because of the way you framed it. I'm totally ok with other races organizing parties exclusively between friends of the same race. What I am against is people organizing public parties excluding races.

@Anothasapiens @SandrineK92 I noticed you didn’t answer the question. So you would be ok if he told his wife “Sorry Honey, bc your skin color is wrong, you’re excluded? You’re ok with that just say so. But you also have to be ok when other race do the same to you.

@ChicityQuark @SandrineK92 You are making up a scenario so you can be offended about it. If Svitolina wanted to come, Monfils or Osaka would have told her they want to set a dinner between black players to talk about their common experience. She would understand, nothing wrong with that.

@SandrineK92 I think people are offended bc Monfils couldn’t even bring his own wife bc her complexion was not the correct one. We have already debated this viewpoint and determined it’s wrong. Why are we defending it now?

As an artist, to critique other people’s art is a risky endeavour, because I know my own art is not without flaws, but Megha has brought it a bit on herself so I will tell you what I think of it. I will start with the positives and say that the puffin is cute and I like it… But that’s probably the only thing in the illustration that seems well done. Other than that she has muddy colours, the art style of the other bird seems completely different from the puffin, the perspective is confusing and the whole top half of the painting is a mess, which is bad because it also has the brightest colours, so your eye is drawn to the top edge. Usually if the composition draws your eye to the edge but not back in, it is not good, unless it’s done with intention, such as to direct you to the next page. If the second bird was a bright yellow this could have alleviated the problem but cropping out nearly the whole top half of the image improves it, which suggests it has a poor use of space. I have not seen any of her other art so I cannot critique her as a whole, that would be unfair. Though it’s funny she criticises Eric Carle’s style whilst depicting a bird that is just made from two circles

This is Megha's illustration for her children's book. To be frank I don't even know what I'm looking at aside from the puffin

wes anderson kind of the perfect example of how only a human touch can produce real art. nobody of the million braindead ghouls who ai generate "wes anderson videos" gets his style right because they reduce it to just formal rules for visual appearance

Chris Eubanks couldn't handle a bit of banter from Coco Vandeweghe on the Tennis Channel and said he was all about just focusing on ALL the players. The same Chris Eubanks who attended a party in Paris where ONLY Black players were allowed to attend.
