@mirrormerecos @Primary_Pianist The personal revelation of the majority. The bosoms of the majority at Nicea gave us the doctrine of the Trinity. A minority of bosoms disagreed with it. Just like Luther's personal revelation gave us sola scriptura. Don't question the inspiration of the Holy Ghost!

@AnotherStam @Primary_Pianist But that's not true. The Trinity was dictated by the councils of Nicea, many members of which disagreed with this doctrine. How do you square that?

This is such a strange argument. “The verse doesn’t explicitly say Holy Ghost, therefore you can’t associate the experience with the Holy Ghost” is not how Christian interpretation works. The word “Trinity” isn’t in the Bible either. Neither is “Sola Scriptura.” Yet Protestants build doctrine by connecting passages and drawing conclusions. Latter-day Saints read 1 Kings 19 and Luke 24 as examples of how God communicates spiritually: quietly, inwardly, and powerfully. That fits perfectly with biblical language about the Spirit teaching, guiding, bearing witness, and bringing things to remembrance. Also, the Holy Ghost was clearly active before John 20. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost. John the Baptist was filled from the womb. Simeon was led by the Spirit. David spoke by the Spirit. So no, LDS aren’t “layering” something foreign onto the Bible. We’re doing what Christians have always done: reading scripture in light of scripture.
Exmo2EO@Exmo2EO

It’s wild how often LDS will claim something is biblical when they’re really just overlaying an LDS claim over it. Then they think it’s a clear interpretation that non-LDS should accept. They have a term for this that is rarely, if ever, applied to themselves: “Lazy Learner”. Attributing this passage, and the other typically cited by LDS (1 Kings 19:11-12 for the “still small voice” and Luke 24:32 for “burning in the bosom”), to the Holy Ghost is not biblical as they’ll claim. It’s lazy learning. In both instances it is Christ Himself, first speaking with Elijah and then walking/talking with the two disciples. The still small voice and burning in the bosom of these two instances is directly connected with an experience with Christ. The Bible does not mention the Holy Ghost anywhere in connection to these passages. LDS get the Holy Ghost connection exclusively from LDS sources. Then in the direct opposition to the evidence, boldly claim “it’s in the Bible”. It’s easy for Lazy Learners to keep the LDS vs actual facts straight. The Holy Ghost is mentioned in the second story, but chronologically later when Christ breathes on them to receive the Holy Spirit. LDS members, you’re not being taught what is in the Bible. You are being taught the LDS scripture layered onto the Bible. Please learn the differences. Please don’t be Lazy Learners.

@dubsndoo Funny how no one seems to be asking, as we all did for Quebec so long ago now "What does Alberta want?" Not to mention that while so many seem to realize there are some legitimate grievances, no one seems to be offering solutions. Unless Alberta votes to go NOTHING will change.

You can’t deny that the separatism question in Alberta is worthy of debating. To just call out one side as unworthy and guilty of rage farming does nothing to settle the issue, and further ramp up the temperature of the debate.
Jen Gerson@jengerson

@boehmerB Not all "debates" are worth having, Blaise. We're committed to dealing with real policy solutions grounded in reality -- not outrage farming, grifting and delusion.

@3lfares @vanrhijn_syb Bullshit. But the Dutch are a trading nation, and they have realized that little of the world speaks Dutch. Thus almost all Dutch people have a working knowledge of English. Many speak it with more fluency than English speakers.

Here are 5 factual reasons why Alberta would likely fail or struggle badly as its own country: 1. Landlocked with no easy ocean access - Alberta has no seaport. All exports (oil, gas, grain, etc.) must cross another country’s land (Canada or the US). Right now, Canada guarantees pipelines and trade routes. As a separate country, you'd have to beg or pay for permission every time. Higher costs, delays, and risk of being blocked or charged extra. 2. Economy shrinks from lost trade deals and uncertainty - Economists (like University of Calgary’s Trevor Tombe) estimate separation would shrink Alberta’s economy by about $20 billion a year — roughly $3,900 less per person. You'd lose Canada’s big trade agreements, face new borders/tariffs, and scare away investors who hate uncertainty. Oil companies already hate risk. 3. You’d take on a huge chunk of Canada’s debt - Alberta would likely inherit $75–100 billion of federal debt. Plus, you’d have to build your own military, embassies, border control, and full government from scratch. That costs billions extra every year that Alberta doesn’t pay now. 4. Oil and resources become harder to sell - Alberta’s wealth is mostly oil. As a tiny country (pop. ~4.5–5 million), you lose Canada’s power in trade talks. Pipelines to the coast or US could get blocked or renegotiated at higher cost. No more automatic Canadian market access. Your main customer (US) would have more leverage over a small, desperate seller. 5. Higher costs for services + smaller tax base - You’d pay full price for things Canada now helps cover (defence, pensions, borders, etc.). Many experts say per-person costs would rise. If businesses and skilled workers leave because of risk and higher taxes, your tax base shrinks fast, making everything more expensive for those who stay. The separatists have no plan. They are trying to gaslight Albertan's that you will be prosperous and rich which is an outright lie.

@ctvedmonton It's not time for Canadian politeness. America has a long history of facilitating insurrection in other countries. Trump has verbalized this intent for Canada. The separation movement needs to immediately be put down and the leaders of it incarcerated.

People need to seriously chill the fuck out with their rhetoric on Albertan separatism. If everyone who opposes separatism is condescending as FUCK about it, you're going to negatively polarize Albertans into voting for a referendum. The Albertan people, whether it's true or not, feel like their general way of life has been under attack from Ottawa for quite a while now. It's up to us to show them that they can still have their way of life + the things they value while remaining a part of Canada. Obviously, it would have been preferable to do this BEFORE it got to this point, but it is what it is.

@jkwaldie @johnfhuizing @cnm5000 This is exactly right! Albertans who vote to stay are voting for the status quo in all things. If Alberta doesn't vote for indepdence NOTHING is going to change. You know it and I know it. Why? The Liberals need Quebec votes to stay in office. It is that simple.

I was never a separatist, because I was not interested in politics, nor Canada's history. Once I looked under the hood, I could see how Canada is pieced and held together with fake and fraudulent agreements made in the dark. Alberta Independence could be the start of refederation.

Oh look, another Alberta separatist poster vomiting pure fantasy onto the timeline! Let’s break down their wishlist, one ridiculous claim at a time: - “Save over 50 billion a year on equalization” your actual net contribution tops out around 15 to 25 billion. That 50 billion number is completely made up. - “Gasoline under 75 cents a litre” yeah right. Real prices sit between 1.50 and 1.90 right now and crude oil prices don’t give a damn about your daydreams. - “Plus 30 percent purchasing power with the USD” you just yanked that figure out of thin air. Switching currencies would bring nothing but chaos and headaches. - “Flat 10 percent income tax, no carbon tax, no GST, no capital gains” cute. You still have to pay for an entire new country, military, borders and all. Good luck with the deficits or brutal service cuts. - “Resources unlocked, no net zero policies” sure, because brand new trade barriers, lost markets and scared off investors are exactly how booms happen. - “Better pensions, healthcare, cheaper services” actual economists predict a 4 percent GDP hit and higher costs per person. But keep dreaming. - “Alberta Parks better managed, freedom for the kids and grandkids” vague wishful thinking plus emotional manipulation. Most Albertans already think this whole thing is nonsense. - “Right to carry, constitutional republic, immigration control” cool ideas in theory until you have to negotiate the national debt, treaties and defense from scratch while the economy takes a nosedive. And it just goes on… Sure some real frustrations with Ottawa exist, but this poster is just dishonest hype dressed up in flags. It’s grievance porn for people bad at basic math and worse at reality. Alberta belongs to us Canadians. 🇨🇦 Don’t RT unless you want to hurt a separatists feelings. 😉

@Sofamatics @The_Elite_Lib Perhaps, but your question is purely hypothetical It is never going to happen. You know it, and I know it. As long as the Liberal party of Canada owes its majority to Quebec NOTHING will change. And unless Alberta goes NOTHING will change. It is that simple.
