Please, read books. Not just captions, or carousel posts, or what made it to the top of your feed. Read books. Long ones. Complex ones. You cannot build a mind with weight on the back of social media ephemerals. Intellectual depth demands patience.

While @jk_rowling and @Glinner have been shining examples of decency and integrity, the response of most celebrities to the all-out attack on women’s rights has been disappointing to say the least. For me, one of the biggest disappointments was Neil De Grasse Tyson. I’d recently watched Cosmos, and he seemed like a true believer in science and reason. To hear him say that men have no biological advantage over women — well. Not only was I disappointed, but I saw in that instant just what we were dealing with. We aren’t facing people who are well-intentioned but misinformed; no, our opponents will tell any lie, spread any falsehood, and impeach their own credibility without a second’s hesitation in order to advance the cause even a millimeter. That was the moment when I grasped the fanaticism of genderist believers — and their certainty. They believe — truly believe — that they’re going to win. Even now, they believe in ultimate victory, and the retribution they mean to enact against anyone who tells them “no.” Tyson isn’t worried about his scientific reputation because he believes his side will win, and he’ll be lauded for the lies he knows he’s telling. I’d be interested in hearing from y’all — which celebrity’s response to gender ideology disappointed you the most?

A boy just won the West Virginia state championship in girls' shot put. The @ACLU argued in front of the Supreme Court that that boy has no physical advantage vs girls. He just wants to play with his friends on the girls' team. It's all about fun and inclusion, you see.
Jennifer Sey@JenniferSey

The @ACLU's whole argument in West Virginia vs BPJ is that: 1) BPJ has no male advantage since he blocked his puberty; 2) aw shucks he's just a nice girl at the back of the pack who wants to compete with his girlfriends. It's all bull.

Sorry but this is such BS. If she genuinely was "frightened" that he was having a stroke then any rational wife would have insisted he go straight to the hospital. Instead she dragged him off to a Waffle House and patronized him on stage like a baby: “Joe – you did such a great job.” We saw his incapacity for years. Don't try to rewrite history.
Collin Rugg@CollinRugg

NEW: Former First Lady Jill Biden says she thought her husband was having a stroke during his 2024 debate against Donald Trump. Jill famously boasted on stage with Joe Biden after the debate about how he did "such a great job." "I thought, 'Oh my God, he's having a stroke,' and it scared me to death," Jill Biden now admits. Great example of elder abuse.

There will be people who hate and love your work. There are people who will hate it without ever having read it (the "I don't read African/Nigerian authors brigade" I call them) because you're not white or sundry reasons. Your work will resonate with some folks, enough solace.
Lukas Not Podolski@OtitoNosike

As someone who intends to publish a book soon, if I ever came across a review like this attached to my work, I genuinely do not know what I would do.

I’m sure you all remember Avery Jackson, the “trans girl” who, at 9, was on the cover of National Geographic in January of 2017. Avery was given the gold standard in gender affirming care: he was chemically castrated and sterilized with “blockers” to hold off male puberty. Now Avery has come out as “nonbinary” and chosen not to pursue transition, meaning that his puberty was blocked for no reason — but that’s not the worst part. He also identifies as asexual, meaning that he doesn’t experience sexual attraction. This is undoubtedly the result of the medication used to delay male puberty. The president of WPATH, Dr, “Marci” Bowers, has said on camera that so-called puberty blockers, which are used to chemically castrate sex offenders, chemically castrate the young boys who take them as well, leaving them incapable of arousal or orgasm. For adult sex offenders, the process is reversible. For boys like Avery, the effects are permanent. He will never feel sexual attraction, or any of the experiences that accompany it. He is also completely sterile; he will never father a child, and his own childhood was spent in the national spotlight. The blockers he was given have also stunted his physical and mental development in irreversible ways. We know from the experiences of other “trans” children that he will never sexually mature - neither physically nor emotionally. All of these things were stolen from him, and he has said that transitioning “ruined my life.” It’s high time that we stop pretending that children can make an informed decision to transition or take blockers, even if their doctors are honest about the risks and consequences — which most are not. Blockers are not a pause button. They are not reversible. The intellectual deficits they cause will never repair themselves, and neither will the damage done to the child victim’s body, or to their emotional intelligence and maturity. This will, of course, make it easier to push them into transitioning; ie, to sell them hormones and provide surgical alterations. Parents like Avery’s, who try to monetize their child’s struggles with gender identity, belong in prison, not on television, and so do the doctors and politicians who were complicit in his chemical castration and sterilization.

The energy required to challenge law enforcement and the courts is no small one. Someone posts something mocking an activist who was running up and down, giving press interviews demanding for your release, you endorse their being termed "content creator". The mind boggles.

I'm a person who's big on gratitude -- I get upset when folks don't show it. Whatever made you repost something like this? Omoyele Sowore and his supporters were all over the place bringing attention to your situation, and you contemplate reposting something derisive like this?

After reading through the tweets, it is important that I state this: I am deeply grateful to every Nigerian, and I will forever remain grateful. It may interest you to know that my elder brother and the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, @sowore was one of the first people I had to meet and appreciate on the very night I was released from DSS custody. I may not be able to mention everyone’s name, but please understand that I truly appreciate Nigerians, and my love and passion for a better Nigeria has only doubled. As for the repost of a comment made by someone else, that was an error. For now, I want us to focus on demanding a good and working Nigeria that we can all be proud of. Justice can never be cracked

I did for almost 7 years before Covid struck, march or stand daily at the Unity Fountain crying for the rescue of ChibokGirls and Leah Sharibu. In those years, I was joined many times by my late mom, my husband, our sons and other Nigerians to cry for children we never knew before their tragic abduction. I have never stopped demanding accountability from all governments of Nigeria including the one I worked for where my work exemplified public accountability. I hope you saw me on the street recently with other Nigerians advocating for Electoral Reforms. Please, it is now time for you to ask your parents to join you and others on the streets to continue so that you can also in the future be described as “culpable” for caring and sharing in the pain of others. I wish you well. Blessings. ✍🏾✍🏾✍🏾

Dear @obyezeks I have great respect for you but on this you're culpable. In 2014/2015, you staged a #BringBackOurGirls protest for the Chibok Girls, how come you're quiet about recent kidnaps? Can't you mobilize again for a protest? Until then, pray for them quietly
