@SC__Dan The press reports I read about them is that they're like the help-points on underground platforms. Covered by CCTV and with an access button to a control centre.

Are there actually police officers using these boxes or are they simply empty boxes with some stickers on them? The wording of all of makes me think it’s the latter - in which case it’s no more of a deterrent than the cardboard cutout PCs you see at the likes of B&M
City of London Police@CityPolice

Today we launch our Safer City Streets initiative. To mark the launch, we have unveiled a network of newly branded police boxes across the Square Mile, each featuring police officers who patrol the square mile on foot and bike. Read more ➡️cityoflondon.police.uk/news/city-of-l…

Trying not to hyperventilate about an operational Massey Fergusson that’s for sale in Plymouth. I could get rid of the camper and have the best tractor in the world. My son could drive it round the fields.

@Urjoking @Brick_Cop @ukhomeoffice But the work that would have been done by those officers will be shared across the ones left. And they're then going to be demonised by the daily mail for failing victims..

Morale is pretty shot right now. The Commissioner’s announcement that job losses are inevitable based on the current funding projections should really worry Londoner’s. It’s already really worrying Cops with families and mortgages to pay looking towards 2025. #ThinBlueLine 🚨

@BadJokesSteve If you're disqualified then by definition you have no insurance. What often happens in that case is that the disqual driving is sentenced and there's no separate penalty for the insurance matter.

Andover man handed points for driving whilst disqualified: andoveradvertiser.co.uk/news/24020783.… Sounds a bit strange, but really depends on the circumstances. I’ve dealt with a case with a similar outcome, where the driver was caught the day before their disqualification was up.

@gazohardy @metpoliceuk @MayorofLondon Sentences are decided by courts (and ultimately ministry of justice guidelines). Neither police nor the (useless) mayor have any control over sentencing.

Detectives have named a 16-year-old boy who died after being stabbed on Primrose Hill last night. Harry Pitman was with a group of friends who had gathered to celebrate the New Year. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Many people were on Primrose Hill at the time and it is vital that any witnesses contact us immediately. Please share information with us here: mipp.police.uk/operation/01MP…. You can also call the investigation team on 0208 785 8099. Read more: news.met.police.uk/news/victim-of….

"Police manhunt for convicted rapist" I don't know details of the September trial but with the national drive around violence against women and girls are the courts bailing many convicted rapists awaiting sentencing? Genuine question is it a common thing? bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@emerpod @Miles_PBH @SC__Dan Massively different now. We patrol with regulars or without. We regularly take over whole shifts in local areas and cover all of the jobs from start to a handover. Some of us keep our own workloads and work on specialist teams.

@Miles_PBH @SC__Dan When I a MSC, back in the 1970’s and 1980’s there were broadly two types of special constables: those who policed local events and football matches, and a very few of us who paraded with the regulars and (mostly) undertook foot patrols (we still had best books back then).

Hey there regular cops! I’m hearing more and more about specials backfilling for absence and abstraction, and being given policing problems to own and solve, moving away from their traditional role. Quick poll. Without specials, would your force policing plan results suffer?

10yrs ago today I was promoted to Sgt - spent the next 7 yrs in the best rank there is (no bias involved in anyway) before retiring - my one career regret was not getting that rank sooner (wasn’t for the want of trying!) it was the only rank I wanted #SgtsAreBest

@sc_survey I'm not suggesting that PUP was the reason for the reduction (although plainly many SCs have moved to PC). My point was that the corporate focus has moved away from volunteers whilst it's been mandated to focus on reg number increases.

@BadJokesSteve PUP was just an extra hard knock to SC numbers in many places. SC numbers have been trending steadily downwards for the past 11 years. They've shown few signs of slowing down. We had 20,580 Specials in 2012, in 2022 we had 8086. That's a fall of 12,494.

As I gather more info and try to corroborate it, I feel that some Special Constabularies are in managed decline.

Today Ashley Dean has been jailed for nine years and five months for causing the death of 32-year-old Lisa Birtwistle by dangerous driving. Dean was nearly twice the drink-drive limit at the time the collision occurred in #Poulton in March 2022. #Fatal5

@DurhamPolice Good skills by the officer arresting straight away for S4 without embarrassing himself needlessly applying a spit-box. Plainly unfit. S4 gives better powers. Well done @DurhamPoliceSC for equipping the officer with the training and trust to work well. And thank you to the SC.

Absolutely this. Until there are standards with an enforced inspection there won't be any changes in some places.
ex-Career SC@Career_SC

@PoliceChiefs The introduction of a national mandatory inspection of each special constabulary by @HMICFRS to standardise the management, training and deliverables from SCs. The differences between forces is unacceptable and must be standardised.
