@MookieBookieBoo @ElectionCenter_ No they wouldn’t. Scotus appointments are exempt from the filibuster and have been for over a decade.

@Bill10067727 @MookieBookieBoo @ElectionCenter_ They don’t need to kill the filibuster. You seem rather uninformed. Scotus appointments were carved out from the filibuster under Obama and Reid. They’d need a Dem president and 50 dem senators who’d back it. A steep hill but not the fantasy land you’re portraying.

@Badatnames55 @MookieBookieBoo @ElectionCenter_ They’d need to kill the filibuster (51 votes), then pack the Court with 7-8 new liberal justices, requiring a Dem president, full session time, hearings, ALL Trump-state GOP senators to join in, & Fetterman. Without red states seceding or nullifying federal law. Ain’t happening

@fightinbobbyl @ljmontello @mirrorlogician What does the filibuster have to do with the president opposing a policy and announcing that he'll veto it if it gets through Congress?

Modern Rome in Freefall 🇵🇸
In my lifetime, liberal incrementalism has resulted in the party pushing for single payer in 1993 to telling voters to shut up & be grateful for their unaffordable private insurance under an ACA based on GOP policy in 2026. So maybe tome to admit it's not working.
doody@_Doodster

The most frustrating part about the far-left is that they want radical change immediately. They don’t acknowledge small, 1st step wins that lead to bigger ones for their causes. Their self-righteous attitudes will blow it all up & then complain about the nothing they’ve earned.

@josiahwsutton He wasn't white but I bet he didn't look like that. Considering that he had a sizable following and started a whole religion I'd bet my bottom dollar he was a good looking fella. Jesus also died at 33 and that guy is at least 40.

@hecubian_devil >But where the science it *totally unambiguous*--on the benefits and safety of vaccination, I appreciate you and that parents should have a greater level of control in their children's healthcare, but do read about the history of vaccines. They're both good and bad.

The government won't force you to vaccinate your kids, because we have certain principles about bodily autonomy and parental rights in this country. Even when the results are awful. We still have certain principles about personal choice. But with trans healthcare, there's a huge and growing movement to take away families' rights to make their own medical decisions about this kind of care. Even many liberal and centrist publications and commentators will constantly debate the quality of scientific evidence for youth gender medicine--at worst, the argument seems to be "we're not sure if it works, because there just isn't a lot of high-quality evidence." The implicit argument is that if the science is insufficiently compelling, the state would be justified to remove the liberty of families to make these choices for themselves. That state legislatures, or Congress, would be warranted in making these healthcare choices *for* American families--because the science is ambiguous. But where the science it *totally unambiguous*--on the benefits and safety of vaccination, or the necessity in many emergencies for blood transfusions, we let anti-vaxxers put their children (and other children!) at risk. We let Jehovah's Witnesses deprive their children of lifesaving emergency care. In other words, we are so committed, as a country, to the freedom of families and individuals to make their own choices about their bodies and their healthcare, that we allow them even to make *objectively very bad choices*. Except, apparently, when it comes to transgender healthcare. Here, we make an exception. Here, Congress gets to choose for you. In this one area, you are not to be permitted the freedom to make choices for yourself or your child. The government will tell you what you can and cannot do, as a parent. You're allowed to make medical decisions for your child that result *directly* in their death; but you're not allowed to get them healthcare that you and your child sincerely believe is necessary for their flourishing and health--not if that healthcare challenges people's norms about sex and gender.

Father of Daisy, the second little girl to die of measles in Texas, tells Robert F. Kennedy Jr- founded anti-vaccine group, Children's Health Defense, that he doesn't regret not getting her vaccinated, and won't vaccinate any future children.

The Hormuz Letter@HormuzLetter·
BREAKING: In a direct message to the Trump administration and the US Navy, China's Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun says Chinese ships will continue transiting the Strait of Hormuz through agreements with Iran, and warns the US not to "meddle in our affairs." Also from Dong's statement: 1. Says Chinese ships are currently "moving in and out of the waters of the Strait of Hormuz" 2. Confirms China has existing "trade and energy agreements with Iran" that China will "respect and honor" 3. Explicitly states: "Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz and it is open for us," recognizing Iranian sovereignty over transit

@frankbumb On one hand, that’s not a great reason. On the other, MacArthur had a list of targets to nuke (30-50 nukes worth,) and wanted to turn a good part of Manchuria into a “belt of radioactive cobalt.” Still, Truman understood that MacArthur was a good general and it wasn’t easy.
