Thousands of Kuki-Zo people took to the streets in Manipur’s Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts on Saturday, demanding the unconditional release of Kuki hostages and justice for three church leaders killed in an ambush by extremists on May 13. trib.al/bZgFLRR

Killing pastors cannot be called a Christian!! We strongly condemn ZUF-Kamson, an NSCN-IM proxy, for the brutal killing of Kuki church leaders on 13 May 2026. Targeting unarmed ministers of peace is an act of terror, not faith, and stands against every teaching of Christ. Such violence against those who preach reconciliation has no place in any civilized society. We demand justice for the slain pastors and immediate action against the perpetrators. #𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐊𝐈𝐌_𝐓𝐄_𝐀𝐖𝐆𝐈𝐍 @chinkukimizogin #JusticeForPastors #StopTheViolence #ZUF #NSCNIM #Manipur #PrayForManipur #PeaceInManipur

VVEZ Demands Release of 20 Kuki-Naga Hostages, Warns Against Escalation in Manipur Hill Districts Chandel | May 16, 2026 l The Village Volunteer Eastern Zone (VVEZ) on Saturday demanded the immediate, unconditional release of 14 Kuki civilians and 6 Naga civilians held hostage, warning the situation could turn into an “irreversible security crisis.” In a press statement, VVEZ said the hostages bear “no connection” to the assassination of three Kuki-Zo church leaders and called for perpetrators to be brought to justice. The group appealed to Naga tribes to reject “divisive propaganda” by Tangkhul CSOs and the Tangkhul-led NSCN-IM/Eastern Flank. It clarified that the Kuki community “harbors no hostility toward the Naga tribes” and that its demand for a Separate Administration is unrelated to Nagas. VVEZ urged the Chandel Naga Peoples’ Organisation (CNPO) to refrain from “one-sided press statements” and condemned hostage-taking by all sides. In a “Final Warning,” VVEZ said if Kuki-Zo safety in Chandel, Tengnoupal, or Kamjong districts is compromised, it will “exhaust every available recourse to protect our people.” #𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐊𝐈𝐌_𝐓𝐄_𝐀𝐖𝐆𝐈𝐍 @chinkukimizogin #VVEZ #KukiZo #Manipur #HostageCrisis #Chandel #Tengnoupal #Kamjong #Naga #ReleaseHostages #SeparateAdministration #CNPO #NSCNIM #16May2026 #Kukiland

According to a press statement issued by KSO Delhi & NCR, the protest was organised to condemn the killing of three Kuki-Zo pastors on 13 May 2026 and the continued abduction of 14 Kuki-Zo men, which the organisation attributed to NSCN-IM cadres. The group also raised concerns over the burning of Kuki-Zo villages including Haijang, Gampal, K. Songlung, Litan, Mullam, and Lanchah. Key Demands Listed by KSO In its press statement, KSO Delhi & NCR put forward an eight-point charter of demands: 1. Immediate abrogation of the ceasefire agreement with the NSCN-IM, which it described as "secessionist". 2. Immediate release and safe recovery of 14 abducted Kuki-Zo men. 3. Combing operations in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts to dismantle camps and stop alleged illegal cross-border movement. 4. Crackdown on illegal timber and drug trade centres in Namlee, Wanglee, and Choro. 5. NIA investigation into the killing of the three pastors and prosecution of perpetrators. 6. Legal action against individuals and groups, including Tangkhul women, allegedly obstructing security forces. 7. Ban on organisations including SDSA, which KSO accused of involvement in abductions and communal incitement. 8. Implementation of Separate Administration for Kuki-Zo people under the Constitution of India. The organisation also cited the National Investigation Agency, stating that the NIA had confirmed the involvement of NSCN-IM cadres in the looting of Punjab National Bank in Ukhrul involving approximately ₹20 crores. Appeal to Government and International Community KSO Delhi & NCR said the protest was "peaceful and democratic" and aimed to draw national attention to the security situation faced by the Kuki-Zo people. The group appealed to the Government of India, security agencies, civil society organisations, and the international community to ensure justice and accountability. The statement further warned that "if the legitimate demands of the Kuki-Zo people continue to be ignored, the consequences of such inaction will inevitably be reflected in the 2027 Assembly Elections in Manipur." #𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐊𝐈𝐌_𝐓𝐄_𝐀𝐖𝐆𝐈𝐍 @chinkukimizogin @NIA_India #JusticeForKukiZoPastors #Release14KukiZoMen #SeparateAdministration #AbrogateCeasefire #NIAInvestigation #BanSDSA #KSODelhiNCR #JantarMantarProtest #ManipurViolence #KukiZo #StopKukiZoViolence #16May2026
