It's clear that the answer to the liturgical tension is that Novus Ordo is going to traditionalize, as opposed to the TLM becoming the standard form. I think Wagner, who is a respected friend, is likely wrong that we will “win.” Likewise, believing we should fight is not incompatible with a sober analysis of our society’s situation. A lot of young (ie youthful) people seem to think things are only worth doing if the prospect of winning is realistic. That’s false. I’m old school. I’m in the writings of great men who sacrificed much everyday. None of them thought like this. They did their duty, regardless. Whether they “won” or not in this life was largely inconsequential to them. They lived, sacrificed, and died if necessary to do their duty. They left the results to God and Providence.
