The International Olympic Committee’s decision on women’s sports could mark an important cultural tipping point.
For years, there’s been a sharp divide between popular and elite opinion on this issue. While most Americans support keeping men out of women’s sports, celebrities and elite institutions have largely either succumbed to gender ideology or stayed silent.
But now the IOC, arguably the most powerful governing body in international sport, has realigned itself with reality. This could give other elites the “permission” they need to finally admit what everyone has always known: men and women have real biological differences. And those differences matter in sports.
We should welcome everyone who is willing to stand for truth and fairness—whether they joined us early or late.
But we should especially remember the ones who spoke out early. Many of them have endured vicious shaming for their loyalty to the truth. They deserve our thanks, society’s trust, and—in some cases—an apology.
