I'm interested in "trapped buildings": those that couldn't be built today (because of zoning and code changes) but also can't be substantially modified or demolished (because of historic protection rules). One of those phenomena that really makes one wonder what exactly we're trying to do. Has anyone ever estimated what fraction of buildings in major cities fall into this category? When I asked Claude about San Francisco, it concluded: "If forced to give a single number with a single confidence rating: roughly 100,000 buildings — about two-thirds of San Francisco's physical structures — sit in the trap as a practical matter. Confidence: moderate. The number could be 70,000 or 130,000 depending on how strictly you operationalize "can't be substantially modified.""

@simonsarris Yeah, not quite right imo. I think the font choice is wrong and there’s a heavy mismatch between logo and text. The mutual fund comparison is right unfortunately. I feel like the stag has to be “contained” somehow. It’ll make it mesh more with the text. Maybe a rounded square?

@simonsarris I like this better. Honestly just remove the ground/grass and convert to a vector and you’re good to go. Font choice matters. Maybe slab serif?

I think a better logo might be a stag, something like this one (my best try so far). It has more mysticism to it, more of the thumb print of life. And the horns are tree-shaped, which is a nice tie-in to graph software without being literal trees.

I want to design a new logo for my software company (Northwoods Software) but it needs to have some of this energy. Somehow. Also remain professional.
