Today in Goa, I witnessed the signing of shipbuilding contracts for two Indian-flag Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLECs) by @ONGC_, through its joint ventures with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, and Samsung Heavy Industries. This significant milestone reflects strong trilateral industrial cooperation among India, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, and represents a strategic step towards securing specialised marine logistics for critical energy feedstock. The two VLECs, each with a cargo capacity of approximately 100,000 cubic metres, will be Indian-flag vessels and are scheduled for delivery in FY 2028–29. The vessels will be owned and operated by two joint venture companies, Bharat Ethane One IFSC Pvt. Ltd. and Bharat Ethane Two IFSC Pvt. Ltd., established in GIFT City, Gujarat, and will support the transportation of nearly 600 KTPA of ethane from the United States to India. This dedicated logistics corridor will ensure reliable feedstock supplies for @OpalIndiaIn strengthen supply-chain resilience, and support continuity across downstream petrochemical value chains. The initiative is fully aligned with Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 and the Government of India’s commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat, reinforcing our focus on building long-term national capability in specialised energy shipping, enhancing institutional expertise, and securing India’s energy future through resilient, globally integrated partnerships. #IndiaEnergyWeek2026

Under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister @narendramodi, the Government of India’s #SamudraManthan campaign is accelerating domestic oil and gas exploration to strengthen national energy security and reduce import dependence. In a significant milestone under this initiative, #ONGC successfully spudded the AND-P-1 stratigraphic well on 27 January 2026 in the Andaman offshore region, approximately 267 nautical miles from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, overcoming complex logistical and operational challenges in a frontier basin.
