💬 Insights from @CommunitiesOrg (LOSCO) – Kabale District, Kigezi Sub Region, SouthWestern Uganda Shared by Executive Director, @ConsultAlbert . 1️⃣ What is the prototype? @CommunitiesOrg 's prototype focuses on improving public service delivery, especially in education and health. In Kabale, communities face poor roads, severe dust pollution, collapsing infrastructure, and weak health and education services. Many government facilities exist only “on paper,” while those that operate struggle with absenteeism, poor sanitation, missing medicines, and unreliable power. 2️⃣ What is the progress so far? LOSCO has been actively engaging the existing government structures, never working outside them. Through dialogues, community visits, and interface meetings, they have pushed for: • Children who had dropped out to return to school. • Increased school monitoring by the DEO and inspectors. • Accountability for teachers who neglect learners. • District health officials responding to community complaints. Recent joint visits uncovered health centers without power, mismanaged resources, and absentee health workers as others report late for work, leading to swift action, including staff changes. 3️⃣ What is the future prospect? LOSCO plans to strengthen advocacy by documenting service gaps through photos and evidence, and organizing exhibitions for district leaders to see what communities experience daily. They also aim to expand civic education so households can demand quality services, and push for better use of government skilling hubs, many of which remain underutilized. 4️⃣ What external support is needed? They called for: • More platforms for local actors to speak and influence decisions. • Support for districts to develop ordinances that formalize community participation. • Media engagement to share community evidence widely. • Continued capacity building to help local actors hold duty bearers accountable. Albert emphasized that compliance, documented evidence, and community–government engagement are the most powerful tools communities have to drive change.

💬 Insights from @WDFUganda – Bugweri Distric, Eastern Uganda, Shared by Executive Director, @mattejockas . 1️⃣ What is the prototype? @WDFUganda 's prototype focuses on improving access to health services in rural communities and addressing school dropouts, a major challenge in their region. Through community barazas, they identified key issues including missing medicines, absent health workers, poor sanitation at facilities and incomplete health centers that have remained unfinished for years. These gaps highlight why co-creation and community-driven monitoring are essential. 2️⃣ What is the progress so far? Wilmat has held interface meetings with district leaders and health teams to raise concerns around drug theft, expired medicines, weak supervision and abandoned health centers. Community barazas have also helped surface issues publicly, leading to some accountability actions at district level. They continue to advocate for stronger monitoring systems and community involvement in health service delivery. 3️⃣ What is the future prospect? Wilmat plans to document community service provision gaps & successes through photovoiceand later organize a photo exhibition to show the realities inside health centers. They also plan to expand civic & leadership training for household heads to strengthen demand for better health, education, and livelihood services. Additionally, they hope to advocate for community–private sector partnerships to ensure local people benefit from development investments. 4️⃣ What external support is required? They called for: • More spaces for local actors to speak and influence policy • Support in helping districts develop ordinances that institutionalize community participation • Media support to document and share community stories of change • Continued capacity building for local actors and community structures With stronger collaboration, @WDFUganda believes communities can drive real improvements in health, education and livelihoods.

🌍Bringing All 14 Co-Conveners Together; Lessons Learned & Priorities for Action Today marks a special moment in our Local Leadership Labs (LLL) journey. After a full month of community co-creation workshops across the country, we are now meeting with all 14 of our co-conveners to reflect, learn, and chart a collective path forward. In this session, we are focusing on “Lessons Learnt and Prioritization for Action.” Each co-convener brings rich insights from their regions, stories of community leadership, challenges voiced at the grassroots, and the powerful solutions communities themselves proposed. This gathering is our opportunity to listen to each other, connect the dots, strengthen what worked well, and identify the actions we must prioritize together as we move into the next phase of locally led development. With continued support from the @CIVICUSalliance this space allows us to lift local voices even higher and align our efforts for deeper impact across Uganda. Here’s to shared learning, unlearning, stronger partnerships, and a united commitment to community-driven change. #LocalLeadershipLabs #LocallyLedDevelopment #CAPAIDSUganda #CIVICUSAlliance #CommunityCoCreation #14CoConveners #BuildingLocalPower #LessonsLearnt #PrioritizingForAction @GlpcUg @CommunitiesOrg @feminature @WACSOF @Feeble_Care_Ug @lacsonug @_RIAMIRIAM @EdrijaruE

🌍 Community Reflections from Kigezi. During today’s Local Leadership Labs (LLL) session in the Kigezi Region, community members gathered to present the outcomes of their group discussions, opening up about the real challenges they face in their daily lives. Together with our co-convener, @CommunitiesOrg , participants highlighted several pressing concerns, among them the high cost of school tuition, limited electricity, poor road networks, domestic violence, corruption in government PDM programs and cases of robbery, just a few of the many issues their communities continue to grapple with. Each presentation was heartfelt and insightful, showing how deeply people understand their own realities and how ready they are to take part in shaping better solutions for themselves. At @CapaidsUganda with an unwavering support from @CIVICUSalliance , we continue to stand with communities as they lead these important conversations, proving that true development happens when people take the front seat in creating the change they wish to see. #LocalLeadershipLabs #LocallyLedDevelopment #CAPAIDSUganda #CommunityCoCreation #LocalSustainableCommunitiesOrganization #KigeziRegion #CommunityVoices #BuildingLocalPower #InclusiveDevelopment

💬 Communities Taking the Lead in Kigezi! As part of our ongoing Local Leadership Labs (LLL) co-creation workshop in the Kigezi Region, community members today broke into smaller groups to identify the key challenges affecting their lives and communities. With support from our co-convener, @CommunitiesOrg , participants engaged in open and reflective discussions on issues such as livelihoods, education, health, family wellbeing, and governance. This group work is not just about identifying challenges; it’s about building collective understanding. Later today, the same groups will move into the next step of co-creating practical, community-led solutions to address the issues they’ve raised. 🌱 Communities Co-Creating Real Solutions in Kigezi! Today’s Local Leadership Labs (LLL) workshop in the Kigezi Region brought out the true meaning of locally led development. After identifying key challenges earlier in the day, community members came together again, this time to co-create practical, community-centered solutions that respond directly to their daily needs. With support from our co-convener, Local Sustainable Communities Organization, participants discussed and presented clear action points aimed at improving infrastructure, health, and education services within their communities. For roads and transport, the community proposed: •Expanding existing roads. •Opening and connecting more feeder roads. •Installing culverts. •Laying murram to improve accessibility. •Providing stretchers for emergency movement where roads are impassable. •Continuing community work to open and maintain roads together. For healthcare, participants emphasized the need for: •Reliable ambulance services. •More medical supplies in health facilities. •Proper record-keeping and documentation. •Decent accommodation for health workers. •Training health workers in customer care. •Ensuring hospitals have enough drugs and not diverting them to private clinics. •Increasing hospital beds and beddings, especially at Kashelegeyni Health Centre III. •Promoting regular health check-ups. •Improving sanitation and hygiene in health facilities. •Providing seats for patients and caretakers in hospital waiting areas. For education, the community shared solutions such as: •Distributing desks to address the shortage of seats. •Providing lunch (posho) for learners to keep them in school. •Supplying adequate learning materials and textbooks. •Supporting school feeding programs in primary schools. •Encouraging the use of inspection and school assemblies to improve discipline and attendance. •Developing local church-based schools to increase access to education. •Strengthening support for agricultural and school garden projects to grow food for pupils. •Introducing attendance books and stronger school management practices. •Working with parents to reduce absenteeism and encourage responsibility among families. The workshop was honored by the presence of Mr. Moses Tumwijukye, the District Education Officer; Mr. Moses Akampulira, the Senior Community Development Officer for Gender, Culture & Community Development; and Ms. Racheal Kemigisha, the Community Development Officer, who all commended the community for taking ownership of the process. The community also suggested how @CapaidsUganda and its partners could further support, including helping with hospital beds, health worker accommodation, training local health champions, and facilitating ambulance and outreach services to reach more people. These solutions came directly from the community itself, a true reflection that when people are trusted to lead, they already have the ideas, knowledge, and drive to shape lasting change. Through the Local Leadership Labs, CAPAIDS Uganda, with support from @CIVICUSalliance , continues to nurture spaces where communities not only share their challenges but also co-create their own pathways to development. #LocalLeadershipLabs #LocallyLedDevelopment #CAPAIDSUganda #CommunityCoCreation #LocalSustainableCommunitiesOrganization #KigeziRegion #CommunityVoices #BuildingLocalPower #InclusiveDevelopment

During the @centre4policy Dialogue meeting held today in Kampala, our ED @BRKirenga gave a powerful reflection on “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐔𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚 & 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭”. He highlighted that #HRDs act to promote & protect human rights since they speak for the voiceless, support the vulnerable & remind those in power that rights are not favors. #CSOs are not just partners for government but watchdogs. Protection is not charity; it is a state obligation. He called for: the passing of the shelved 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥(𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏), more funding for @UHRC_UGANDA, @JudiciaryUG and @PoliceUg, and Independent oversight of civic space laws emphasizing that when #HRDs are safe, society is safer. He concluded his presentation by reiterating that #HRDs are the voices of the voiceless & deserve protection, respect & resources - not persecution. Uganda’s progress depends on those brave enough to speak truth to power. #TogetherWeDefend
