A little-discussed aspect of the Leadbeater bill is Clause 25, which gives doctors and others total immunity from civil suits, even when they botch the assisted suicide procedure. This shows how much confidence the bill's promoters have in their assisted suicide process.

The airbrushed picture of an attractive young woman cavorting in her pyjamas promoting the #leadbeaterbill should be replaced by a picture of Cyril Tooze. Terminally ill Mr Tooze was told he would wait 10 months for home care in Australia. He couldn't afford both rent and private homecare. So he was assisted to die in South Australia where Voluntary Assisted Dying is legal. This is the reality of #assisteddying. Not so much a choice but a desperate act when faced with dwindling options. Like suicide often is.
