@BattleByrd I find it fascinating that it's 40 years old & hardly looks dated. Imagine such a thing having been made 10 years earlier. It would be dressed in a leisure suit or bell-bottom jeans & paisley shirt.

@TeamTalaricoHQ @jamestalarico I'm an early Gen Xer. I stay up way past midnight. My joints don't ache. What is wrong with Millennials that they always want to pretend they're put-upon?

.@JamesTalarico: I’m an elderly millennial. I can’t stay up past 10pm, my joints ache, and my younger cousins call me cringe. They also call me ‘unc,’ whatever that means. But Gen Z — freed from illusions — is uniquely suited to lead us at this moment. Many of you grew up on the For You Page. The endless scroll is emblematic of what humans have been doing for hundreds of thousands of years: searching. If we scroll past one more tweet, one more TikTok, maybe we’ll find what we’re looking for — the one that will make us feel something. But what you’re looking for can’t be found on artificial platforms run by billionaires. It’s within you.

🇺🇸🚨BREAKING: MAGA influencer Craig Long — “MAGA to the core,” 560K TikTok followers, photographed with Trump — was just arrested in a human trafficking sting. He’s married. He frequently posted videos praising the sheriff who just arrested him. Sheriff Judd’s response at the press conference: “Well, there you go. You got arrested in a human trafficking sting. Influence that for a while.” Never stop connecting the dots.

@anniedufour99 Here's how someone like Putin blackmails someone: You tell them someone else has the videos but you'll stop them from making them public, because they're afraid of you. You're the hero, the friend, the ally; you just need a couple of favors or you might lose your power.

Canada : you wonder why Trump is acting the way it does? Constantly making the decision that benefits Russia, even to the detriment of the USA and -always- to the detriment of its allies like Canada? This Guardian exclusive explains it all : "Vladimir Putin personally authorised a secret spy agency operation to support a “mentally unstable” Donald Trump in the 2016 US presidential election... according to what are assessed to be leaked Kremlin documents." "There is also apparent confirmation that the Kremlin possesses kompromat, or potentially compromising material, on the future president, collected – the document says – from Trump’s earlier “non-official visits to Russian Federation territory”." "There is a brief psychological assessment of Trump, who is described as an “impulsive, mentally unstable and unbalanced individual who suffers from an inferiority complex”." TRUMP, TO THIS DAY, WHO SUES EVERYBODY AND THEIR MOTHER, HAS NEVER SUED THE GUARDIAN. #Trump #Russia #cdnpoli #euronews theguardian.com/world/2021/jul…

@JamesSurowiecki After taxes, a mill is about 650k. Invested in index funds, you could safely take about 40k a year, merely a supplementary income, which you'd then have to pay taxes on AGAIN. But 50 push-ups a day would earn you 500 bucks or 182k. You just need to be sure about what counts.

Take the million, because it would be too annoying to get in arguments every day with the entity who offered you the bet about whether a push-up counted as real or not.

Renny Harlin says that Michael Douglas was supposed to have the lead role in "Cutthroat Island" but “dropped out right before production for personal reasons.” "I was left there with my then-wife Geena Davis. We were both attached to the movie and tried to get out. The part went to the great actor Matthew Modine, and all due respect to him, but he wasn’t at the level of Michael Douglas. All signs said we were doomed. I spent $800,000 of my own money having the script rewritten by Marc Norman ('Shakespeare in Love'). Some things don’t work out." variety.com/2026/film/news…

@mj_lee @NickyGRobertson I don't like Blaine, but I've said it before: Epstein ingratiated himself with as many rich & powerful people as he could specifically to be able to call in favors later. Only SOME were interested in human trafficking, & we don't know which without seeing all the files.

Manhattan, 1931 — before the skyline became a forest of towers. In this aerial view, Central Park cuts through a dense city of mostly low- and mid-rise buildings, while only a few skyscrapers rise above the grid — including the newly completed Empire State Building. What makes the image even more striking: Manhattan had more residents in the early 20th century than it does today. Its population peaked in 1910 at over 2.3 million, compared with about 1.69 million in the 2020 census. Photo: John Victor Dallin / Hagley Museum and Library.

When I worked at USDA and we mildly suggested that maybe children shouldn’t drink energy drinks in the nutrition guidelines the Monster Energy lobbyists came in with a presentation on how Monster wasn’t just fine for kids, it was actually beneficial.

NEW: The new food pyramid was built by corporate interests. General Mills, Danone, the beef industry, and more had financial ties to the scientists writing the new dietary guidelines. RFK said he couldn't be bought, then he let Big Food write the nutrition guidelines.

@cojobrien I know an older guy who owns a music venue who is kind of obsessive about turning off all the lights every evening, & I often help him to mollify him. Meanwhile, I own an arts workshop where the parking lot lights are on all night, bc it costs pennies a day.

This was shocking to me. Lighting has gone from the largest residential use of electricity to the sixth-largest in my lifetime. Clothes dryers alone now use more aggregate electricity than lighting in people's homes.
