Followers will know I have little regard for Jess Phillips who can oft be a stranger from the truth. So I was delighted to read Quentin Letts' description of her letter resigning from Government. "Prominent among the little people was Jess Phillips (Birmingham Yardley), who has never been short on self-regard. She quit as safeguarding minister and did so with a resignation letter that contained – aieee! – a photograph of her own fair mug. ‘I want to start by first saying,’ began the gasbag tautologically. Her chief gripe was that Sir Keir had hesitated to meet her for stand-up arguments. Can you blame him? ‘I think you are a good man fundamentally,’ she droned loftily. Ms Phillips’s prose style was a little unnerving. You could never be quite sure where one clause ended and another began. Some sentences ran away with themselves and her use of commas was ill-disciplined. Towards the end, they were being dropped into the mix like currants into spotted dick. The letter read as if it had been dictated, or perhaps composed with the help of artificial intelligence. She could do with the help of an editor – and now a careers adviser."

Trump was wrong about renewables. Donald Trump just told the UK to “stop windmilling itself to death.” At a time when the world’s biggest economies are racing to dominate the clean energy transition, his advice is for Britain to dig up more oil. He just ignored the fact the North Sea is a finite resource? The energy transition isn’t some trendy political experiment anymore. It’s an economic inevitability driven by global warming, falling renewable costs, and energy security. The clock doesn’t stop because Washington says so. The UK is already generating huge amounts of electricity from wind power. Wind regularly provides over 25-30% of the country’s electricity across the year, and on particularly windy days it can become Britain’s single biggest source of power. At the time of writing, UK wind energy was 37.6%. At times, wind alone has generated well over 20GW of electricity. Enough to power millions of homes without importing expensive fossil fuels. The UK is also home to the world’s largest offshore wind farms, with projects like Hornsea helping turn the North Sea into a clean energy powerhouse instead of just an oil basin. And this industry isn’t small. The UK’s offshore wind sector already supports around 32,000 jobs, with that figure expected to quadruple by 2035. That means jobs. Investment. Skills. Manufacturing. Infrastructure. You don’t build the future by doubling down on yesterday’s technology. And while politicians argue, businesses across the UK are already getting on with it. Building battery storage. Expanding charging networks. Installing solar. Developing offshore wind. Electrifying fleets. The transition is happening regardless of the noise coming from across the Atlantic. The only real question is whether the UK leads it, or gets left behind.

@ArmchairAdml We are not dependent on wind and sun only. There is gas, nuclear, hydro, wind and solar in the generation mix. And even if we extract it ourselves, which we still do, it is traded on the international market. We don't get richer from it.

🧵The "Energy Independence Bill" just mentioned in the King's Speech is something of a bombshell. Why? Because it compels the govt to rally Parliament behind fresh legislation to ban new North Sea oil/gas licences (this has NOT been written into law yet). This is a v big deal!

Mad @Ed_Miliband tells us that renewables will give us British Energy security. This morning wind and solar are producing 33% of our electricity but 31% is being imported from other countries via InterConnectors. How does this equal security, Ed?

Why did you install such a small solar system. 2.8 kWp is small by today’s standards? I managed to squeeze 7 kWp on my mid terrace house which is split evenly between my north and south roof aspects. youtu.be/WDYJMUtlbrE?si… You could try switching to a specific heat pump tariff such as octopus cosy. Also curious as you claimed power was expensive last night, are you on octopus agile or similar tariff?

Only one chance in this lifetime… Like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos, I couldn’t resist a cell phone video of Earthset. You can hear the shutter on the Nikon as @Astro_Christina is hammering away on 3-shot brackets and capturing those exceptional Earthset photos through the 400mm lens. @AstroVicGlover was in window 3 watching with @Astro_Jeremy next to him. I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view…this is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye. Enjoy.

After shadowing for 6 hours and issuing multiple warnings, 🇺🇸USS Spruance opened fire with her 5-inch MK 45 Gun on sanctioned 🇮🇷Iranian container ship MV Touska that refused to stop while inbound Bandar Abbas, Iran. At least 3 rounds fired into the engine room, stopping the ship. US Marines from the 31st MEU based on USS Tripoli subsequently boarded the vessel after dark and and the vessel is now in US custody.

@neso_energy 50% on one day, 22% on another, 2% on a different day, irratic weather dependent electricity generators like wind are not fit for purpose. Of course you love to a daily average to avoid the many peaks and troughs for wind that means something reliable has to step up

@DeanH2963 @neso_energy There are problems with the way the grid has evolved and the way it is marketed but renewables plus storage is a major part of the solution going forward. Your argument seems to be akin to: There is a problem with air quality so stop breathing is the solution.

If I hired a cook, and some days she didn’t turn up, and some days she turned up and made eight breakfasts, you might want to get rid of the cook. But you certainly wouldn’t build an extension and a new pantry to store the breakfasts for when the cook didn’t turn up. Renewables are not reliable

On 25 March at 1:30pm, wind generated 23,880MW of electricity to set a new maximum wind generation record. 🥇At the time, wind was providing 60% of Great Britain’s electricity, that’s enough to power over 23 million homes. 🏠 Download the NESO app: bit.ly/4sKMXU8
