With a final tally of 213-214, the war powers resolution to disengage US forces from the war on Iran fails by a single vote. @RepGolden of Maine is the sole Democratic lawmaker to vote against the measure. Had he voted for it, it would have passed, handing Trump a historic loss.

@cabsav456 By that logic isn’t conservatism dead/dying….if trend is down down? Why do you think that is?

Conservatism is a real thing with deeply held principles. Charlie had the right idea by reaching out to younger people and building the next generation. But the current "conservative movement" is largely a farce. It's become a vehicle for populism/Trumpism, moving away from actual conservatism.
Oakman@Oakmanbearcow

@cabsav456 Are we pretending there’s a thing called the conservative movement still?

The media now has a long history of passing off people deeply connected to GOP politics as regular everyday voters in the Trump era. It took me like 90 seconds to find out that she doesn’t live in DC and testified in Congress in favor of Trump’s tax cut bill, which feels like relevant context if she’s going to be interviewed about her views. @ABC

President Trump appeared to accept a McDonald's order from a "DoorDash Grandma" before addressing the media at the White House.

@tylermacro10 I mean speculators on both sides, nothing has really changed to really hit price higher or lower in a meaningful way….so some specs made money some lost it, it’s the way of the mkt

Everyone keeps asking us about the Strait of #Hormuz but we can't keep our eyes off of the #tankers that are still loading oil in #Iran; as well as departing those terminals. It's quite baffling to spectate even after Trump's many proclamations and orders. #OOTT

@MMTmacrotrader Theoretically, you could run the entire economy with just PC funds instead of banks. It would just require enormous efficiency of central bank dollars to facilitate all transactions. People would probably start trading via PC units just like they use bank deposits today.

Most of the hysteria over losses in private credit is due to a fundamental misunderstanding of endogenous money. However with the growth of bank lending to NDFIs its not an issue completely isolated outside the banks balance sheet. Private credit is not money creation in the way bank credit is. When banks originate a new loan, money is created as a loan/deposit pair. Where as PC is usually an intermediation of existing deposits. So losses in PC, while painful for the investor, do not necessarily have to impact the banking systems ability to create new money. And its this endogenous money creation that keeps new flows coming and validates existing claims. The real turning point remains fiscals flows, especially at the macro level. The losses in PC and any exposure they may have on balance sheets are quickly absorbed by the continued fiscal add.

It's a low churn labor market ... but ... The wage premium for job changers that disappeared in 2024 appears to have returned. Wage growth ticked up to 3.8% for the 3-months ended March for job stayers (vs 3.5% in December). Wage growth for job changers rose to 5% from 4%

Now, it is true that *inequality* among college graduates has greatly increased over the past 30 years. According to Fed data, real wages rose just barely since 1990 for the bottom 50% of college graduates. The top 25 percent, meanwhile, saw large income gains.

College grads have been “prolentarianized": Universities minted too many knowledge workers, and now they're working at Starbucks in unprecedented numbers. This is a popular narrative. But it isn't quite right. In truth, recent college grads today are *more* likely to hold a job that requires a degree -- and *less* likely to have a low-wage service job -- than they were in the mid-1990s vox.com/politics/48505…

Israel-Lebanon talks to begin next week. Makes Iran-US talks tomorrow much more likely--incidentally, the rhetoric from Iran's leadership over the last 36 hours looks more performative. State of emergency in Israel has been lifted. That means that Netanyahu's corruption trial will resume this weekend.
