Day 2015 of the #TigrayGenocide: #Tigray is now dangerously close to war once again, a war that would be devastating for civilians in #Tigray and could spillover across the Horn. #TigrayCantWait #TigrayIsSuffering

On this Mother’s Day, we honor the mothers of Tigray — especially the women who endured the unimaginable during the war. To the mothers who carried children through hunger, siege, displacement, and terror. To the mothers who searched for missing sons and daughters. To the mothers who buried loved ones with no time to grieve. And to the women and girls who became mothers through genocidal rape, your pain is not forgotten, and your humanity is not erased. The world may move on, but your scars remain. Your courage remains too. Motherhood in Tigray was turned into a battlefield. Women’s bodies were targeted to destroy families, communities, and identity itself. Yet even after surviving atrocities meant to break the human spirit, so many mothers still chose to protect, nurture, and love their children in the middle of devastation. That strength deserves recognition, dignity, justice, and peace. Today is not only a celebration. It is also a day of remembrance. A day to acknowledge grief that still lives behind many smiles. A day to say clearly: survivors deserve justice, support, healing, and truth. To every mother in Tigray: You are seen. You are valued. And your suffering must never be denied or forgotten. #MothersDay #Tigray #TigrayGenocide #EndTheSilenceOnTigray

Dear @AfricaUnions @StateDept @UN @HumanRightsCtte The European Union (EU) has been called upon to reconsider its decision to provide direct budget to the Ethiopian government. The EU has allocated funds to the Ethiopian government for no improvement in its dangerous policies. The International Diaspora for the Tigray Struggle Community of the United Kingdom has condemned and opposed the countless injustices committed against the people of Tigray in violation of the Pretoria Agreement. In a letter to EU Commissioner for International Partnership Joseph Skela, the UK's Mekete Tigray community said the EU's regular budget of loans and aid to the Ethiopian government is over €539 million; The Ethiopian government has ignored the Pretoria Peace Agreement and called for reconsideration as it helps to push the suffering it is inflicting on the people of Tigray. While the Ethiopian government continues to use hunger as a tool of destruction, continues to inflict suffering on the people of Tigray for non-compliance with the Pretoria Peace Agreement; and unread, says the letter from the Tigray Fighting Community United Kingdom. Human Rights Watch's findings in April showed that the Ethiopian government continued to commit genocide and severe repression against Tigray and that 40 percent of Tigray's land is still under occupation Europe in a letter to Joseph Scella. According to the report, more than 2 million Tigrayans have been displaced from their homes for six years. People of Tigray Banking Services; fuel;pharmaceuticals; Transportation services, lack of basic commodities, are denied and worsened by the lockdown, he said, indicating that hunger and disease continue to be used as tools of destruction. Government employees denied their monthly salaries; Students were denied proper education; More than 1 million people have been killed and more than 120,000 women have been sexually assaulted as a result of the war. This is also stated in a letter to Joseph Scala; The Ethiopian government is relying on its troops and weapons on the borders of Tigray to start another destruction against the people of Tigray. Moreover, the UK Diaspora Community of Mekete Tigray said in its letter that the EU's decision is wrong and encourages its path of destruction. The United Kingdom Parliament, including the US Secretary of State, Ghent University in Belgium, Yale University in the United States; In April 2026, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch also announced that the Ethiopian government had committed international human rights violations in Tigray He stressed that it should be given due attention. The United Kingdom Diaspora Community of Tigray Fighting in its concluding letter calling for the EU to stop its financial assistance to the Ethiopian government so that the Ethiopian government does not use its financial, political and economic capacity to exacerbate its human rights violations against Tigray pressure to respect the peace agreement reached; Humanitarian aid to address the famine in Tigray; Pressure should be exerted on the return of millions of displaced Tigrayans to their normal places and farms; The UK Diaspora Community of Tigray Fighting in its letter called on the European Union to focus on bringing the perpetrators of the crime of genocide to justice. @BerhanuAsres #PeaceforTigray

🧵: In post-war societies, fighter jets are never ‘just flights.’ They are memories, warnings, & fear returning to the sky. Peace is not only the silence of guns. It is the restoration of #Psychological safety. #Tigray #PeaceProcess #MentalHealth @UN @UNDPPA @AUC_PAPS @WHO 👇

Dear @AfricaUnions @UN_HRC @EU_Commission @StateDept @UNThe situation you’ve described reflects a critical and deteriorating moment in Northern Ethiopia as of **May 2026**. The letter from the **Coalition of Tigray Civil Societies (ACSOT)** serves as a stark warning that the **Pretoria Agreement (2022)**—the very foundation of the current peace—is on the verge of collapse. ### The Core Crisis: A "Defunct" Peace Recent developments have pushed the region back to the brink of open conflict. Just days ago, in early May 2026, the political landscape shifted dramatically: * **Political Rupture:** The TPLF (Tigray People's Liberation Front) has effectively declared the Pretoria Agreement defunct. They recently restored their own legislative council and elected **Debretsion Gebremichael** as regional president, a move the federal government in Addis Ababa views as unconstitutional and a direct challenge to federal authority. * **Administrative Collapse:** The **Tigray Interim Administration (IRA)**, led by Getachew Reda, has been largely sidelined by hardline TPLF factions. This has created a "double administration" scenario similar to the one that triggered the war in 2020. * **The June 2026 Election Trigger:** With national elections scheduled for next month, the TPLF remains barred from participating due to the cancellation of its legal registration in 2025. This exclusion is a primary driver of the current "mistrust" mentioned by ACSOT. ### Humanitarian Stakes The "continuing mistrust" the civil society coalition highlights has tangible, devastating consequences for civilians: * **The IDP Crisis:** As noted in the letter, nearly **one million people** remain in temporary shelters. Many are from **Western Tigray**, which remains under the control of Amhara regional forces and is described by monitors as an "information black hole" where repatriation has stalled indefinitely. * **Economic Blockade by Budget:** The federal government has been accused of withholding budgetary transfers and fuel. This has left healthcare workers and teachers in Tigray unpaid for months, leading to strikes and a total breakdown of public services. * **Starvation and Funding Cuts:** Compounding the political tension, international food aid (including the U.S.-led JEOP) is facing massive funding breaks this summer, coinciding with the "lean season" where millions face acute food insecurity. ### International Appeal ACSOT’s decision to bypass local channels and appeal directly to the **AU, EU, UN, and G7 ambassadors** is a sign of total local deadlock. Their demands center on: 1. **Sovereignty & Territory:** The immediate return of occupied territories (Western and Southern Tigray) to Tigrayan administration as per the original constitution. 2. **Implementation Oversight:** Moving beyond the "silenced guns" to actual political and structural implementation of the Pretoria terms. 3. **Neutral Platform:** Facilitating an international platform for reconciliation before the June elections spark a renewed military offensive. The international community is currently being urged to apply "sustained diplomatic pressure" on Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and TPLF leadership to prevent a return to the full-scale ethnic terror witnessed between 2020 and 2022. @BerhanuAsres #PeaceforTigray

Dear @AfricaUnions @UN_HRC @EU_Commission @UN @StateDept @HumanRightsCtte The international community should act immediately to ease tensions between Ethiopia and Tigray and support peace initiatives without delay. The Coalition of Tigray Civil Societies (ACSOT) has sent a joint letter to international diplomats and institutions. In a letter to the AU Commission Chairman, the Head of the European Union Mission in Ethiopia, the UN Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, and the ambassadors of the United States, Britain, Germany, France and Italy, he silenced the guns However, he says the situation is now getting worse due to continuing mistrust and political issues. The letter said that the constitutionally recognized sovereign states of Tigray are still occupied due to the failure to fully implement the Pretoria Agreement, resulting in more than one million people in temporary IDP shelters and the recovery process has not progressed as expected. The civil society coalition said the current tension is not a sudden occurrence but a continuation of the problems in the implementation of the Pretoria Agreement. He called on the parties and countries involved in the signing of the Pretoria Agreement to find an immediate solution. The associations urged international partners to facilitate a platform for peacebuilding and called on local counterparts to give priority to reconciliation. @BerhanuAsres #PeaceforTigray
