The release of some hostages and a tentative peace in Gaza for the first time in too many months is very very good news.
But there is a long way to go.
I look forward to seeing more hostages released soon. And we need the peace to hold.
As this life-saving window opens, our teams from the @PalestineRCS continue to provide emergency healthcare and are doing their best to meet people's urgent needs.
People have suffered long enough. I sincerely hope that the implementation of the ceasefire agreement will not only bring immediate relief but also mark the beginning of greater support for those in need and pave the way for lasting peace.

The picture of Syria’s future is still emerging but what we know for sure is that greater support from the international community is needed for people to live in safety and dignity.
Volunteers and staff from @SYRedCrescent continue to play a vital role in providing life-saving assistance to millions across Syria.
Our strength lies in our global network with a local presence. The IFRC and its network teams are transporting humanitarian supplies from its logistics hubs in Dubai, Jordan, and Egypt, ensuring swift delivery inside Syria in coordination with @SYRedCrescent.
The IFRC has launched an Emergency Appeal which will support the @SYRedCrescent to deliver vital aid to communities across the country.

Isabel Gomes from @WorldVision presents on behalf of over 120 #NGOs, highlighting how targeted the #GHO2025 is and the gap between those targeted and those left outside its narrow targeting and available funding.

English

Even with increasingly strict limits on the scope of the need we are assessing, the numbers are vast: 305.1 million people worldwide. In the 42 appeals and response plans we are targeting just 189.5 million of those people – less than in 2024 – leaving 115.6m untargeted. #GHO2025
English

Important to note at #GHO2025 launch that #humanitarian response should be only a small part of the solution. These are needs affected people could probably largely meet themselves, if they had peace, and investment in prevention, climate action and anticipation. @UNReliefChief

The world is on fire. This is how we put it out.
In our flagship annual overview, we make the case for US$47 billion to support 190 million people who need urgent humanitarian aid and safety.

Today, ahead of the 2025 Global Humanitarian Overview launch, @EdemWosornu, OCHA's Director for Operation and Advocacy Division, and Rita Amukhobu @_AfricanUnion's Head of the Humanitarian Affairs Division, answered questions at a press conference in Nairobi. 🌍 #GHO2025

According to @UNOCHA, approx. 305 million people will need humanitarian assistance in 2025.
In a joint statement with 100+ organisations, WHH urge donors to fully fund the #GHO2025. All stakeholders must redouble efforts to prevent and resolve conflict.

The new #GHO2025 looks like a big ask of donors but it would cost literally less than #peanuts. Global peanut market in 2023 was $90bn, fully funding the prioritized and targeted 2025 response plans is just $47.4bn. @UNReliefChief

Riing from @CHIDDOSSudan @Charter4Change advocates to @AidExGlobal on critical importance to local partners of flexible funding, fair ICR, programmatic multi-year funding, budget transparency + best equitable partnership practice to enable local actors to lead humanitarian action

English

Good points about the need for longer term food/agriculture programming in Gaza that starts restoring productive capacity here at #aidex. It’s been disappointing to see such a focus on keeping affected people completely dependent on the next aid delivery.
English

Interesting focus on physical #protection at #aidex. Vast majority of #humanitarians don’t have access to armored cars or PPE - it’s not what protects us. Rather it’s about #acceptance by affected people, govt. and armed groups

Listening to @gisf_ngo at @AidExGlobal. ‘Local actors are being asked to do more but without the resources’. Are they? Or are international actors finally recognizing and supporting the work that local actors have quietly been doing for decades? #localization
