@Richard9747 @DMacshane49850 @TfL @MayorofLondon @Heidi_Labour Yep, I get that mail every Thursday afternoon. Plus I always check before planning. As a London commuter you get used to checking every weekday morning before you leave anyway.
English

@DMacshane49850 @TfL @MayorofLondon @Heidi_Labour Check before you travel. The weekend closures go up every Monday, you can also sign up to the email or check the tfl website which would take seconds
English

Hello @TfL I arrive Charing Cross for trip to see grandchildren. District and Circle Line closed which f’s up the day. Is it impossible to put warning notice in Metro or via social media to inform Londoners of your closures? @MayorofLondon @Heidi_Labour
English

@helenvecht Round my way you can leave something with a reasonable amount of metal in out out front and it’ll disappear pretty quickly. There’s a ‘scrappy’ van that drives round local roads.
English

@theAngusT @mcfcman66 Me and Dave’s daughter went to see D at the nursing home in Isleworth as he passed during the night and we weren’t there. Dave’s son didn’t want to though and we respected that. Wanted to remember him as he was. No viewings at Lodges. Can’t believe nearly 5 years now.
English

@mcfcman66 It’s bloody tough man. I hated it too, but like you, glad I did.
Oddly, it was harder with my Dad, but he went first.
English

@joel_ca_c Been an EA for an Indian company for 15 years, it was a new one on me too, but some of them make sense, but prepone is a bit literal, being the opposite of postpone. We had a cross cultural session when we joined, which was really funny.
English

@GothOnABrompton haha no not seen that. Another odd idiom is to "double-click on [subject]" to express the equivalent of "let's explore [subject]"
English

@zoekennedy Does it have a pentaclip? It’s a T30 (I think) hex star key.
English

@GothOnABrompton Yes. I have bought a new bike via cycle to work and it came ready except the seat, and I thought ‘oh that’ll be easy’, but no!
English

@Mick_Martini @willnorman Some of that is the various viewing sites, like Horizon 22 and the Lookout. Hybrid working Mondays and Fridays quieter, but pubs etc rammed on a Thursday. City seem to be putting more way finding markers to draw tourists up from around Tower Hill. There’s one behind 22.
English

@willnorman The city is actually busier at the weekend now with day trippers Seems a decent memory when the city thrived Monday to Friday.
English

@guidoacasa @TomWright165389 @joncstone Agree. Based on last night going that way, big crowds on the Queen/King St crossover junction pubs both sides, near Mansion House, also further along near Friday Street. Finch Lane pub gets super busy also, which might count as near Threadneedle. Gets impassable Thursday evenings
English

@TomWright165389 @joncstone It does, but not at Bank, which has never had any hospitality offer*, and is just a transit point. A safer and more pleasant one now, definitely.
*there's one restaurant.
English

removing cars from Bank has turned it from a generic horrible junction to a landmark that people actually like. so many other spots in London could do with the same treatment

@CyclingLawLDN @DaveF63 @SocEnvJustice @JohnJohnStewart Agree. I use both the segregated ones like C9, C3 Embankment and also the old blue paint ones like C7. Anecdotally there are far more women on the former, though a few die hards like me on the latter where it’s that or nothing.
English

@DaveF63 @SocEnvJustice @JohnJohnStewart Definitely on segregated cycleways. On Cycleway 4, the amount of women that now use it is incredible. I posted about this specifically about a year ago and will try and dig it out
English

I invited @SocEnvJustice and their members @JohnJohnStewart and co to come and visit CycleWay 4 with me any morning to see the general usage and behaviours and I was met with total silence. They’re so detached from reality. This was this morning btw…

John Stewart@JohnJohnStewart
Reposting due to paywall. Read. Memorise. Cherish. This superb piece by Polly Vernon spells out what so many of us feel about the thoughtless arrogance of so many cyclists. They just don't seem to understand how counter-productive their behaviour is. johnstewartliveblog.wordpress.com/2026/02/24/ive…
English

@ShruggedAslef @susanelizh25 @BobFromAccounts @TowerHamletsNow That’s because it’s free in London. Often don’t actually travel very far. Certainly less distance than I walked in 70s and 80s (suspect we are similar age). Also no choice unless ££ or faith. My mum fought to get mixed school vs all girls slightly further away but otherwise not.
English

@susanelizh25 @BobFromAccounts @TowerHamletsNow Did I say secondary school kids?
From the number of teenagers cramming onto buses they seem perfectly able to travel independently and stop everyone else traveling
English

Roads quieter this week?
The school run accounts for nearly 30% of morning traffic in London (43% in @TowerHamletsNow).
The average school catchment area in London is 1-2 km.
As the man says, walk to school.
EO@_ezeokolorie
The lack of traffic going to and from work during half term is phenomenal. In conclusion the kids should just walk to school.
English

@guidoacasa @RossLydall @London_Cycling @willnorman IMHO that inaction is partly responsible for the rise in Lime Bike etc popularity. No worries about coming back to find it gone. Based on anecdotal evidence how many Lime riders on my usual commute.
English

40,000 bikes a year are stolen in London, estimates @London_Cycling standard.co.uk/news/transport…
English

@francesca_kms @NealOKelly @lordratso The cycle sales data is misleading in any case. With care, a bicycle lasts many years (15 so far in my case, though it’s a bit triggers broom by now). We don’t drive sales by renewing a lease hire vehicle every few years. We buy consumables and maintain instead.
English

@NealOKelly @lordratso I wouldn’t look at cycle sales, I’d look at cycling numbers in London.its on the increase. 2025 numbers were up 12% from 2024. Since 2019 numbers have increased by 43% (numbers from tfl)
English

Gary thinks I want cycling infra just for me & my son.
For the avoidance of doubt, my partner would use it too, along with the 1.5 million cycle journeys made everyday in London (’25 est).
That’s up from ‘24, showing cycling is a growing part of how ppl move around the city.
Gary Spink@lordratso
@francesca_kms @121gigaguts Ah so you think it's ok to build an entire infrastructure just for your son to cycle when buses and other forms are available including walking but you just don't want to use them. Sounds about right.
English

@WelshCabbie @westcountrytim Where it meets Bishopsgate as that’s 22 on the right and Threadneedle on the left.
English

@dahontr3 @timabrahams I was going to comment ‘East London joins the chat’ but even so, Chiswick Bridge, the next road bridge back, is a literal dual carriageway, and Putney has been widened, the bottle neck being the High Street, which is no worse than before Hammersmith was closed.
English

@timabrahams Other bridges are available, just imagine if you lived in East London, where there are fewer crossing points.
The bridge has been strengthened a couple of times.
English

@ShruggedAslef @CityAM Where I am in Bishopsgate it’s 5 min walk to any station so I’m confused by the City AM story. Possibly slightly less to Bank but then once inside of course it’s miles so there’s that. But Monument and Liverpool St are a good 5 mins.
English

@ShruggedAslef @CityAM I mean not City, but I got delayed by two separate Piccadilly Line outages this week, including being dumped off at South Ealing in the pouring rain, and those trains are nigh as old as me. Testing new ones but rate this is going I’ll be retired before they join regular service.
English

Staffing shortages are wreaking havoc on the Central line.
A City AM investigation reveals Chancery Lane was closed 15% of mornings last year, affecting 500,000 journeys. With a full refit not finished until 2043, is this London's most unreliable line?

@guidoacasa @carornocar @paulswaddle Local people a fan of dodgy sweet shops and pickpockets? Agree with the concept of pedestrianisation but fear it’s too little too late given dire state of retail *everywhere*. Oxford St used to be different, offer something extra than your local high street. Those days long gone.
English

🚨 Westminster Labour and the Mayor are not listening on Oxford Street.
🥀 Labour-led Westminster Council handed Oxford Street to Sadiq Khan and continue to ignore local people’s concerns.
🤫 Labour councillors even labelled it a minor decision to block scrutiny and debate, shutting out local voices.
📊 Khan scrapped a Conservative-led plan with cross-party agreement and now refuses to release postcode level consultation data to hide the true strength of local opposition.
🗳️ Westminster Conservatives’ referendum found over 80% of responding Westminster residents did not support these plans.
♿ Removing buses and pushing stops further away will risks shutting disabled, less mobile people out of their local high street.
🚗 And banning traffic will push them into neighbouring streets, creating more congestion and danger on residential roads.
💙 Westminster Conservatives are listening. Tell us what you think about Oxford Street pedestrianisation: westm.news/SaveOxfordStre…

English

@lfg_uk @Brekkie_Bangers If you cross it, you will find Specsavers is in the shopping centre in King Street.
English

@guidoacasa @J_d_whiting @TfL Also if you ever need to expense a trip (our staff from outside London do this when they visit, they can show the fare from Euston to Monument for example).
English

@J_d_whiting @TfL Much easier to fix trip fares if you forget to tap out. Not a problem you'll have for long...
English

Hi @TfL I have been charged twice for my journey yesterday, only use my phone to travel which has one card on it, I can see the money come out of my bank account twice but tfl online shows only 1 charge, who do I need to engage? Thanks
